I wasn't planning on watching a NASCAR race in the streets of Chicago.

But a NASCAR race in the streets of Chicago while it is pouring rain might be a little too much for me to pass up.
Sounds cool.

Rain is pouring here too. No nascars.
They cancelled the end of one race and delayed the last race due to a little bit of standing water.

I totally think they should have still raced. It’s not like they normally close the roads due to a little standing water. Make the pros get creative.

Totally worth it. I don't watch NASCAR at all, either, but it was enjoyable! Early on, when the top track speeds were like 70 MPH, what a laugh! Once the course dried up a bit, and they put on their slick tires, it was faster, and thankfully not lethal.

I hope it showed the city in a good light, as all the conservative media loves to paint Chicago as an apocalyptic hell hole.

Overall, I'd agree. It was fun to see cars going 150 MPH on that stretch of Lake Shore Drive. Also was impressed with the amount of safety measures they had in place to prevent dangerous wrecks. Those tire barriers got a lot of action and did their job well.

That'll probably be enough NASCAR for me until next year's event, though. A slight chance I might tune into the next event at Bristol because I do like seeing cars crash.

I have this batch of perfume called "You're a Disaster," referring to me, who accidentally dumped a couple of chemicals into a larger can of a base chemical. Then I just dumped a bunch of stuff, somewhat measured (by sight), into some of that base chemical, then added alcohol to make it eau de toilette strength. I can't remember all of what is in it but it is heavy with an oak moss note (from synthetics). It's not bad stuff, IMHO.

Anyway, I hate smell of the blue Dawn dishwashing soap we have, so I took some "You're a Disaster" and added it to the Dawn. It smells much better now!

Edit: My neighborhood is unusually quiet today. No mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers. It's like people took the day off of every kind of work. Only a few ice cream trucks. I'm enjoying this. It will get fucking loud tonight.

Also, Shane Van GIsbergen (New Zealander, but lives up the road from me in OZ) Showed all "them good old boys" how to drive a fucking race car like a pro. In his first Nascar race. Ever.

He did have a great race.. knew he'd be a contender during practice/qualifying when he had some of the fastest laps. Seems like a nice enough guy, too.

Added bonus that him winning probably pissed off some of the aforementioned "good ole' boys" who I'm sure were not expecting a non-American to win. On 4th of July weekend, no less..
