Terrible news. I saw Hot Snakes 2018 in Lausanne, they blew my mind! Such a great band, such a great artist!
Best wishes to his family and friends.
Re: Rick Froberg.
14This is heartbreaking. He seems to have been a good guy (or at least, I’ve never heard otherwise), and he never actively courted death. Just a really creative, expressive guy with a work ethic that should inspire us all.

15An exciting aspect of living in San Diego was knowing that there was the chance of something related to the Hot Snakes could happen at any moment. Knowing that Rick was spotted around town was always a good feeling . He mentioned on his instagram not two weeks ago they were almost done a new album. Not knowing him personally, as a fan I'm mourning what more he would've created. Between Gabe from the Locust and now Rick, there's a lot of sad musicians and artists in this city.
His partner made a nice post under his account - I hope people do create more things in honor of his influence

Re: Rick Froberg.
16Absolutely gutted. Few bands probably meant more to a wider group of my friends/acquittances/peers than Hot Snakes and Jehu. And Rick had one of the absolute best voices in rock music.

Re: Rick Froberg.
17I would love to see a good writer do a long read on Froberg and his aesthetics, sonically, lyrically, graphically/visually.
I've often thought that "Moody, Standard and Poor" is the best album title possible, coming on the heels of the Global Financial Crisis. So much of his craft is simultaneously visceral but evocative, intuitive but lacerating, fatalistic but unbowed, and often resonant on several levels in the midst of a stabbing attack.
I was in grade 9 or 10 when my older girlfriend at the time put on Yank Crime on the little RadioShack boombox in her bedroom. I recognized instantly that my girlfriend was a lot cooler than i was lol
Never saw Hot Snakes or DLJ but I'm grateful I saw Obits twice.
Condolences to anyone who knew him. By all the accounts I've seen, he was a good friend and solid person in addition to being a great artist.

18Like everyone else, absolutely stunned and saddened by the news. It's been really touching to see all the tributes coming out over the past week.
I've been listening to the guy sing for 30+ years and I'm always struck by how sharp and hilarious his lyrics are. I think the humour gets overlooked a bit sometimes in favour of the delivery, but that dude was fucking funny as hell.
