Will an EGC neck have a little relief with heavy strings? Is that okay?

I need a thumb pick for finger style electric guitar. I need a clearer top end on the bass strings for a balanced sound coming out of the amp and I’m tired of fighting it.

I use regular thumb picks for pedal steel, but for
electric guitar, I was looking for a pick that feels as close to your bare thumb as you can get, so I don’t have to adjust my right hand angle so much. My plain thumb nail works better for strumming than for what I’m going for here.

I plan to try out whatever stupid pick I find, but I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?

They have some neck relief as manufactured, of course, otherwise they wouldn't be playable. They were also originally made with the intention that a bit of fret rattle was part of the sound, though I don't know if that is still the case. And that could be do more to how the nut is cut to how the neck is shaped. I've always used 11s on mine, but I know some people use insanely heavy gauges on their EGCs. Kevin has posted pics of many instruments over the years that go out the door with super heavy strings. I'd say go ahead and try whatever you like, the necks are quite resilient.

I have 12 - 60's on my EGC and it takes a little setting up to avoid super fret rattle and get it intonated. It's tuned to D Standard with a dropped C on the 6th.

I've been fussing with how to make the low end a little clearer - right now it's not as resonant as I'd like, but I like the gauge and the way it tunes up a lot. Might have to try another set of just the bottom 2 strings at that tuning and see how it goes.

A number of years ago I was studying fingerstyle playing (I never got super great... I just needed a change of pace). I got a few of these picks from someone's grab bag, and I've been holding onto them tightly.

The super skinny plucking area really makes the pick feel almost invisible. It was the easiest, most gently transition from flatpicking to no pick fingerstyle, to using thumbpicks.

I also tried finger picks, but I could never get the hang of those.

Any tips on cleaning/polishing old plastic?
I have some junky Yamaha/Casio type drum pads and keyboards, I want them shiny and clean for eBay.
And I just discovered a scuff on my reading glasses which I guess is a different thing from cleaning off old gear.

I've seen different types of 3-step polishes, is that what I want?
I don't want to remove paint from the panels.
Aren't there products for making car interiors look brand new?

The watch repair guy made the 40-year-old clear plastic facecover on my watch look shiny and clear.
I want to harness this magical power.

Novus II is one I use all the time for plastic parts. Cleans up Amp control panels. Works wonders on drum wraps too. Leaves a protective layer behind.

I would avoid doing anything to parts that have printing on them. Maybe you could use a lint-free cloth dampened with warm water.
