The production on Clincher-which has the two guitars almost *totally* separated was underwhelming compared with the organic wall-of-sound on Jackson. Still, the songs are killer with "Teetering" being up there as a fave. Even the "bad" songs G7 and "Gpod part, wrong band" have all kinds of dope Tar shit. I could have done without the two live-tracks though since they really don't come close to their studio versions (Glitterhouse Solution 8 single is my fve tar joint, live version sounds ass by comparison)

Tar. Arcwelder never took for me. Jackson is a perfect and timeless album. They were one of the few Amrep/T&G bands back in 91-93 that would come out to Arizona on the reg, and I always appreciated that, even if I was one of a dozen people watching them.

Tar has always sounded thoroughly midwestern to me. I think of flat plains, silos, empty warehouses, and big skies when I listen to them.

This exactly. I was not around when Tar was first around but have consumed all of it now and seen them live several times. The singles collection and box set they released in the last decade are like a monument that the band planned as a whole piece in advance. I'm not quite sure how else to express this. These records could come out today and sound brand new. The later stuff is nearly as good.

Arcwelder=fantastic. But Tar.

If it was up to *me*; Tar would be "classic rock" and frankly, I don't think any "classic rock" fan would skip the channel either; sorry if that makes Tar sound "bad" but that's not my point, more on how their best moments *nailed* ROCK as an idea, people-including the "wrong" ones just haven't heard them which may ultimately be a good thing for us fanboys...

Both wrote perfect records. Both have completely unique sounds. Both seem like genuinely decent groups of people. Both had stylistically different but absolutely brilliant use of the ride cymbal. We should not be putting two examples of wonder against each other but should be applauding them and telling every single person we meet about them. Tar and Arcwelder are two of the greatest bands of all time. I have never once hit another person in my life, but if you shit talk either of these two stupendous bands to my face I will assuredly karate chop you in the neck.
