I wasn't crazy about how separate the wet and dry sounded with a prior MXR box. Maybe a Radial A/B/Y going into two amplifier channels at once is a better sounding option? One clean and the other with the Rat or something dirty blended to taste?Dr Tony Balls wrote: Sun Jul 09, 2023 10:29 amSaid it before, and i'll say it again....any distortion pedal used for bass benefits from a clean blend. Either of the circuits you mention would benefit from it.LBx wrote: Sat Jul 08, 2023 6:18 pm FatRat for bass? Anyone loving it? There's one in the 'hood... Before I have an acquaintance build a GCI Bass Brutalist (Turbo Rat-ish) for me... Thinking the FatRat at 18v might be kinda cool.

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1384Last night my Bandmaster reverb started making like a whirring sound. I don't really know how else to describe it. It's not hum, buzz or static, it just kinda sounds like wind or something, it swells and fades and sort of comes and goes intermittently. I had another amp that did this in the past, but in trying to research the symptom, I don't find anything that seems right.
Anyone have any similar experience? Thoughts? Solutions?

1385Have you checked for a microphonic tube? Does it happen on both channels? Does it happen without an instrument plugged in? Does the sound change by adjusting any controls? Have you tried pulling the PI tube and listening to see if it's still coming from just the power section?

1386Haven't checked most of that. Still happens without instrument. Doesn't seem to care about controls. Will dig into the other stuff when I get a chance/get sufficiently annoyed by it. Thanks for the suggestions.Tom Wanderer wrote: Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:56 am Have you checked for a microphonic tube? Does it happen on both channels? Does it happen without an instrument plugged in? 1387Pedal power supplies, how much do they really matter?
I have had an MXR iso brick for a couple years. No complaints. I know some think little of it and would opt for a pricier Voodoo Labs or something.
Here's the thing: sometimes when I'm improvising a signal chain I power a couple things with the lowly 1 Spot and I can't tell that I'm losing anything.
Thoughts?

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1388It really depends, I use the PP2+ from Voodoo labs and it is way quieter than daisy-chaining with my onespot, but I use a bunch of distortion pedals and those tend to be noisiest when they share power supplies with digital pedals. Perhaps if you have a fairly straightforward pedalboard you might not need one, but I've burned through so many wall warts and I've had the voodoo labs supplies for well over a decade with out any issues.losthighway wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2023 3:15 pm Pedal power supplies, how much do they really matter?

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1389They matter depending on what you're using. Like was mentioned, digital effects can introduce noise through power supplies that you'll hear in your signal and a proper iso brick will remove that. But if you're not experiencing any of that, I wouldnt go trying to fix a problem that isnt there. 1-Spots are totally fine unless they arent.losthighway wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2023 3:15 pm Pedal power supplies, how much do they really matter?

1390I stopped having all sorts of technical difficulties when I switched to a Voodoo Labs power supply. Theu’re expensive but if it broke tomorrow I would find another one
