No but I'm from sweden and there was a BIG hype for so-called aussie rock here; by the time it was over, I started to get into so-called indie -rock and the second hand stores even had a *cheapie bin* labeled "aussie-rock" and yes, it either sounded like Stooges *or* were some wacky, post-Birthday party mess that frequently *still* sounded like Stooges. And yes, I know all that shit: God, Celibate rifles etc.seby wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:08 amHow on Earth do you know about New Christs and Bored! And so on?? Did you spend some time in Australia?jakethesnake wrote: Tue Jul 04, 2023 5:56 pm Yet another guy who loved Mudhoney back in the day but for whom the appreciation has degraded due to the lack of "interesting" qualities their Stooges/Blue Cheer/60's garage rock may offer beyond the admittedly awesome Mark Arm "swag" which simply cannot carry a band alone.
Basically, alredy in the mid-70s, there were detroit rock revovalists Radio Birdman. This carried on until the 80s with Cosmic Psychos (first EP better than Mudhoney), Scientists (better than Mudhoney), Bored!, Beasts of bourbon, even Hoodoo Gurus and New Christs and Celibate Rifles to certain extent.
In regard to Bored!, they were signed to glitterhouse here in europe which was actually the same label that distributed Sub Pop and Amrep (and Bitch Magnet!) here; I was up on all that shit and never missed a release... bored! rocked hard but were a bit (understatement) lacking in the songwriting area which was a common aussie-rock problem (when was the last time *you* wistled some King Snake Roost on the bus-stop)... basically, while hoodoo gurys, New Christs and God had at keast a catchy tune or two, acclaimed acts like Cosmic Psychos just struck me as a grey wall of cool-sounding riffs and little else... kind of like Mudhoney besides "Touch me I'm sick"...
