Re: TRAYNORetcALERT- The "Look What's on Ebay" Thread

Use of the Sunn on the backline at the BBQ this year reaffirmed my fandom of Sunn Amps and Conrad Sundholm. First amp I bought (& still have) was a silver-face Concert Bass (which reminds me Nate, I still owe you a comparison w/ the Beta now that I got my switch back).

I know we all have ragerts around not buying stuff when it was cheap but not getting the tube Sunn stuff when they were frequently sub $400 feels like a bigger missed opportunity on my part. Not to flip but to use and being honest, I guess I mean to drag out once a year and do some lame ass riffs on it and put it back on the shelf (the shame I feel is huge). But back then $400 seemed "a bit high."

On tour some 15-odd years ago, there was a dude setup in a squat that was the former National Archives building in Den Haag who had a classroom-sized space that was FULL of Sunns. The most I'd ever seen in one place. Based on current values, probably $100k worth of amps/cabs. I wish iphones existed at that time so I could have gotten photos.

That particular example above is weird w/ that horn in it. Wonder how it sounds. Guitar amps w/ horns were a thing huh - those Acoustic Control Corp cabs were the most visual striking. This one you wouldn't even notice.

It's funny seeing the back of that cabinet - the Concert Bass I had came with a 1x18 cabinet. Sounded great but I had to replace the speaker once and it was a million screws in the back just like this one. I didn't have a cordless screw gun at that time so I remember my wrist aching for a day after doing it and probably stripped half the screw heads. Later loaned the cab to a friend who kinda fucked me over by leaving at his ex's house where he used to practice and after they split up, she moved out of that house and left it behind so it probably ended up in a dumpster. Sounded way better than you'd expect, especially after putting an EVM-18B in it.
