Can’t wait for y’all to see the Earth doc my friend made that’s doing festival rounds right now, it’s really really good.
a. Literally what I was going to say
b. I'm intrigued
c. Very interested to hear the new directions O'Malleys muse seems to be taking him

I missed Earth during their first round, but was there for some early SUNN shows that really melted my brain, then worked back to Earth.

Earth is probably "better" and if I met them first it would probably be different, but SUNN was very important for me getting into that sort of stuff, so voting for them.

I go back and forth w/ Sunn, I was going to say they're kinda sub-par idea collectors / imitators but then I remembered that Life Metal was pretty great. Ditto Monoliths and Dimensions, which was a watershed for them.

But yeah it's Earth. Everything up to and including The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull is great. Not to be dismissive about Sunn's artistic ascent, but I think Earth are operating on another level.

Yeah, it's real good, shot entirely on Super 8 film by my friend Clyde. Definitely not like your typical music doc filled with talking head interviews--all the interviews are audio only with contemporaneously shot footage accompanying it. Clyde seemingly interviewed almost everyone living who's played in Earth since the beginning. Lots of contemplative moments of PNW "magic realism" (for lack of a better term).

Isn’t Earth 2 the only drone one? I thought that was a great record, but none of the other ones where they developed into kind if a Western take on Swans or whatever did anything for me. Sunn is cool, and even though they dismiss it as being manipulated, that Scott Walker record is the best thing either band has ever come close to.

Plenty of dronin' on the drugged out masterwerk 3: Thrones and Dominions and the first records (esp the killer Southern Lord reissue) is kinda proto drone metal, even w/ drum machines and singing and such.

Genuinely difficult to pick! Went with my gut as well as what I experienced live with each band.

I found Earth sincerely moving on a few levels. Sunn-O)))) were unreal and maybe too much for me at that time? Think it was 2003 when I saw them, so full tilt loud as fuck, salt-the-earth.

Earth wasn't loud at all. Lori Goldsten was playing with them when I saw them, which added a helluva component.

Earth, but it's close.
