I guess so? I don't plan on selling most guitars or amps within a year. I've only bought a couple things new - everything else I've had has doubled or more in price in 5-10 years. Not the best investment I've made, but not the worst? And definitely more fun than a second savings accountbiscuitdough wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 11:19 pmUsually in a way that's guaranteed to take at least a year to sell for 90% of what you've put into it.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
372Are you keeping these are racked up, ready to play? Or are they stored in cases?
45 sounded like a lot but a quick count found me closer to that number than I like.
I have most of mine ready to play, but room is a real issue.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
373That’s right - I don’t generally buy anything without a serious eye towards the resale value. Its the only way I can make any purchase make sense.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
374Generally have around 7 in “playing reach” and about 10 are in the workshop for fixups ranging from cosmetic to catastrophic. My problem is that I’m addicted to buying cheap and restoring things, then I set them aside thinking yes I will sell that in the next year or so, then failing to do that half the time. Truth be I’d be happy with 10-15 I think. Not that I’m some kind of creative force, I just find it a lot of fun to play something well made and well set up.
The other factor is that I split from my wife about 6 years ago and don’t have a permanent house going forward yet, so half of them are in my folks’ basement.
I’ve also begun lending gear to bands and that is a good feeling.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
376Talk me out of replacing the perfectly great-sounding & working Kappas in my TL-606 cabs with Deltalites. Anyone who's been to the PRF Campout has heard these and they're great. But...
I'm building a pair of TL-606s for a friend and one of the speakers he chose based on feed back from others here is an Eminence Deltalite. Shockingly light as I referenced in the teaser of the Micro-reviews thread. So with his permission I pulled one of the Kappas on my pair and doing side-by-side w/ his speaker installed.
My first impressions are that I can't say I like one BETTER than the other, sound-wise? The Kappas really have a lot of cut and definition but the Deltalite is smoother up top, a bit more low end extension I think. Both sound great to me honestly. Maybe i'd say the Deltalite actually sounds more like a classic bass cabinet sound and the Kappa sounds almost could be mistaken for having a tweeter in it (but not in a bad overly clicky way, you know what I mean). I might give the edge to the Deltalite, but again it's not a huge dramatic difference either way.
And yes there's some weight savings....but a TL-606 when built to spec is still pretty heavy and I put casters on one of the two to minimize weight impact. One at a time with the Kappas is still very manageable for me, even with stairs. An Eminence Kappa is not the brutal cast-frame beast that the EVM-15L (or B) is for sure.
The thing that's triggering my gear lust is a FOMO aspect. I'm not 100% clear if it is or isn't being discontinued, but it is on the Eminence Discontinued sale, they're on sale at almost 25% off bringing it from $260 to $205, but also it looks like they might be getting discontinued altogether.
Still...two speakers is $410 which is a lot of tacos. IDK Maybe I've talked myself out of this already.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
377I also keep talking myself out of this...my thought is that if it's getting discontinued, I have to wonder if there's a replacement on the way? Also, if I replace them in the FOUR 1x15"s I have (yes, four of them), what do I do with those speakers? Hold onto them? Sell them? I'd rather just wait until they fry, get a replacement Delta-dude if that's still an option, and then just toss the busted one.Garth wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 11:23 am

I'm also trying to actively less broken shit around in my life, so that's where I'm at.
