When I was in early high school and still going to my local church's youth group to socialize, I had a youth minister named Mark. Mark noticed that I liked punk rock a whole lot, Green Day, Descendants, NOFX, Rancid, etc. Pop punk. One day after group, he told me to make sure I came next Sunday because he was going to give me something to borrow for a bit. When I returned the next Sunday, he gave me a copy of Post Mersh Vol. 3 CD, Husker Du's Zen Arcade (on self-made cassette) and Dead Milkmen's Not Richard But Dick. I took them home and spent hours just having my mind blown by this music.

The next week I went to my local Blockbuster Music and sold about 90% of the CDs I had to start over, realizing that I actually did not like pop punk all that much, and I was on a completely different trajectory than anyone else I knew at the time (it was 2001 in Arlington TX, there weren't many other people that I knew of listening to this stuff). Also, I stopped going to church. Thanks Mark!
