TABGAHM isn't perfect. There's one scene in particular that made me question Vicaria's motive. Strange move from the director that probably went over my head, and some of the horror sequences are formulaic, but overall it's a good watch.

I like them messy with rough edges.

I'm not sure if it really classifies as horror (horror comedy, with an emphasis on comedy) but I have wanted to watch Werewolves Within since it came out and finally got a chance earlier this week. It's funny, as is everything with Sam Richardson, but not really scary. It felt like the kind of funny horror movie that was a dime a dozen thirty years ago, and was a very nice way to just turn off my brain for an hour and a half.

I haven't watched The Shape of Water but this would be a gay version of that, or so I've read. British sci-fi horror comedy. It's kind of cute, I guess. Sometimes I have difficulty understanding hard British accents. The trailer makes it seem more horror than comedy when it's actually the opposite, but there was a scene when the manfish is creeping up a stairwell that gave me the heebie-jeebies.

Accidentally re-watched The Tunnel from Australia. Thought I hadn't seen it but as the movie was progressing I slowly realized I had. Wasn't bad but I wasn't shocked that I couldn't remember it. One of the very few found footage movies that made me queasy from shaky cam syndrome, but to its benefit that makes the tunnel-dweller that much more scary-looking.

Godless: The Eastfield Exorcism was more sad than scary. It's a Tubi original inspired by an Australian exorcism that went south. More about the horrors of religious zealotry and mental illness.

This thread is normally none of my business, but I'm curious if anyone has seen the 2019 Guatemalan film La Llorona? (not to be confused with an American horror from the same year called The Curse of La Llorona).

It's based on an old Mexican folk tale of a woman who drowned her children and appears in the form of a weeping ghost except this time it's set in the home of a former fascist dictator (based on the real life Efraín Ríos Montt) who's on trial for genocide.

It's not a conventional horror in that there are no jump scares or deaths, really (it may be a stretch to even call it a horror) and it will probably disappoint many of you, but I thought the context in which they placed the film was really original and there was a genuine sense of dread and foreboding throughout the film due to the nature of what was being dealt with.

Not a fan of horror in general?

Yup. I liked it. Horror hits different when grounded in reality.

Historically, they've often been focused on blood and guts or jump scares (especially American ones), rather than being cerebral/atmospheric. Not really my bag.
One of my favourite horror memories is in Rec 2* when the kids, laughing and joking, break into the house, but there's this realisation or feeling that it's not funny and there's something seriously wrong. Also the cop barricading himself in the bathroom and committing suicide out of hopelessness. Straight out of nightmares.

Maybe it's all changing though. I'm aware younger directors are upsetting things.

*I admit, bloody in parts, but it's not the central focus of the scares

Gotcha.

I'm always interested in reasons given as to why any one person isn't a fan of horror. My favorite is that horror movies are scary. Don't know why that amuses me so much. Being terrified is big fun and low-thresholds in others are cute to me.

I also lean heavily towards the atmospheric and spooky but can get into gore especially if it's well-done and serves the plot, or so ridiculously over the top that the mind reels from its existence. Speaking of which I have never seen the OG Castle Freak by Stuart Gordon, but l ran across a movie on Tubi titled Full Moon Features Carnage Collection: Forbidden Freaks ignorant of the fact that Full Moon Features is Stuart Gordon's production company. I had no idea what I was getting into and fucking loved every disgusting taboo-busting moment. Holy shit. Holy shit.

Went to see it last night, loved it... can't seem to get it out of my thoughts this morning. I think watching everything with closed captions and playing music without earplugs has taken it's toll... last few movies I've seen in theaters I miss like 15% of the dialogue. I'll definitely be rewatching once it's streaming somewhere.

The actress that played Mia was incredible.

I didn't go into it totally blind but I had zero clue as to what the characters motivation was behind using the hand. To realize that spiritual possession was being used as a party drug is fairly unique and entertaining. There was no ambiguity as to if it works or not, such as with a Ouija board, it works and we're gonna fuck with it. I liked that. I also liked the ending. Just a cool spooky movie with good actors and entertaining premise.

I really want to see Birth/Rebirth. Today is a good day to sit in a movie theater.
