882Yup. My parents fall precisely in this demographic.Krev wrote: Sat Sep 02, 2023 6:20 pmLike a quarter of the US state of Florida is a Margaritaville. It's insane the extent to which he appealed to alcoholic, white baby boomers. Hearing Jimmy as a kid usually meant a) we were on vacation in Florida, b) we were about to go on vacation in Florida, or c) my parents were pretending that they were on vacation in Florida. All involved them drinking alcohol.
Many memories inevitably tied to his music, not by choice.

883Eh, he had one top ten hit in the same way that the Grateful Dead had one top ten hit.Anthony Flack wrote: Sat Sep 02, 2023 6:02 pm I had no idea that Jimmy Buffet turned his one and only top ten hit into a resort hotel chain that made him a billionaire.
I really can’t stand Buffet’s music, but he apparently put a lot of his wealth toward good environmental causes, and he openly hated Trump, at the risk of alienating his own fan base. Nobody really had anything bad to say about him as a person, which isn’t true of Billy Joel or the Eagles.

884Wait, does that mean American Pie is mathematically equivalent to the Rolling Stones?

885The only shitty thing I heard, which is certainly not Serial Child Rapist Ted Nugent-level shitty, is that he gets mad that the venue staff can hear him play without paying.Wood Goblin wrote: Sun Sep 03, 2023 8:29 amEh, he had one top ten hit in the same way that the Grateful Dead had one top ten hit.Anthony Flack wrote: Sat Sep 02, 2023 6:02 pm I had no idea that Jimmy Buffet turned his one and only top ten hit into a resort hotel chain that made him a billionaire.

887No judgement, it's just one of those songs that seems like it's going to be hanging around for a long time, while the tide is perhaps going out on Billy Joel.

889Margarita, whiskey, or rye beat tonic & gin.
Also, so does drinking beer with my fucked up friends.

890I struggle on a daily basis between craving and glorifying alcohol vs. knowing it's horrible and wanting to quit.turnbullac wrote: Sun Sep 03, 2023 4:18 pm Smash Mouth’s Steve Harwell on Death Bed, Only Days to Live

I'm not a fan of Smash Mouth nor do I know much about Steve Harwell, but this is an awful way for anyone to die.
