I always felt it sounded kinda dry and muffled. Just like the Poster Children record he recorded around the same era.

I mean, it sounds good, but if you compare it to recordings he did a few months later (Goat, Jackson, Fat Axl...).. it just pales in comparison me thinks.

I must admit I only know the cd version of that record though.

Cannonbal I always though was fun but there are better songs on Last Splash.

I'm not familiar with all of their albums so I won't vote. I will admit, though, that I had 'Cannonball' on cassingle back in the mid-90's. It would be years before I'd listen to Last Splash and discover the whole album is great.

The Safari EP. Otherwise, Pod by far-Last Splash had a few songs while the rest was goofy filler and the later stuff never registered with me; maybe time for a revisit but yeah, no matter how lame Frank Blacks solo career might have been, the Breeders do precious little to convince me that Pixies would have been better with more Kim Deal songwriting input ; her *vocals* are cooler though

All the albums are amazing. I ended up voting for Title TK. It has so many subtle moments of greatness, off-kilter quirks. It appeared unexpectedly after years of silence and blew me away. Confirmed that Kim Deal is a songwriting genius whose skills who should be embraced as a national treasure. Like tallchris mentioned, everything she has done is solid.

To stop from going off on the merits of each album, I'll just add her solo album is finally due next year. Can't wait.

My brain says Pod but the spirit demands Last Splash. I rediscovered Last Splash (along with Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space and Perfect from Now On) during an incredibly dark period in life where I hadn't actively listened to any music for months. All of a sudden Last Splash showed itself to me again in the guise of a CD-R amidst other dubs, and it reminded me of the person I was was trying to find and get back to being.

Almost my thoughts exactly. Never really got Last Splash: bad 90s vibes from that one, reminds me more of a Beck or Beastie Boys or JSBX record (in terms of sonics and atmosphere) than a rock band making rock music. And the later stuff was so bland. Clearly not for me.

I do like a few tracks off Pod and the song 'Safari', however. But the Pixies have held up way better for me.
