Alright, going on a bit of a hiatus, but thought I'd get the ball rolling on something. . .
In reference to this post, who do you think is the better vocalist, Anthony Kiedis or Olivia Rodrigo?
This might be harder than you think, or maybe not.
All manner of tangents/galaxy-brained shitposts welcome. Or maybe this thread can just die a quick death.
Re: Vocalist-dome: Anthony Kiedis vs. Olivia Rodrigo
2I’ve heard only a few songs from Olivia Rodrigo. Reminds me a lot of Avril Lavigne. I didn’t vote in the scream thread, but it doesn’t bother me. Makes me a little happy that it annoys others.
Anthony Kiedis is not only an awful lyricist, but is on the verge of being tone-deaf.
Voted for Olivia, with the caveat that I don’t know her music nearly as well as RHCP.

3It’s beyond that; he has the singing voice of an actual deaf person.jfv wrote: Sat Sep 23, 2023 4:56 pmAnthony Kiedis is not only an awful lyricist, but is on the verge of being tone-deaf.

4I don't know. That Scar Tissue song that was unavoidable for a decade has a melody. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but he hits the notes. That's about as much as I can defend Anthony Kiedes, he can apparently hit some notes okay.
I don't know how much of Rodrigo's stuff she wrote but it seems a clever enough read on what someone her age would be grappling with. She can also hit a note, probably better.

5I don't really know OR's music, but she's not Kiedis. Going with Olivia.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.

6Representatives of the Disney Entertainment Industrial Complex are the worst. Metastasized forms of elite propaganda. It is depressing to see some of you try and defend this utter poison.
AK is fine w/ the goofy party vibes on Uplift Mofo Party Plan. The professionalised creature that emerged on Mother's Milk is unbearably obnoxious 95% of the time. But that's showbiz in El-Lay for ya. I can still manage 'Scar Tissue' or 'Californication'.
So AK.
IMO the more interesting debate is which of our contestants has harmed the most children. OR gets my vote there for sure...

7The funny thing about that: when that album blew up they were absolutely everywhere for a good couple of years. I remember running into numerous concerts of them on TV at the time and practically every time he was singing so absolutely off-key it was shocking. Maybe it was the endless touring but that guy COULD NOT SING.losthighway wrote: Sat Sep 23, 2023 5:20 pmI don't know. That Scar Tissue song that was unavoidable for a decade has a melody. 8Yeah, there's a reason they started boosting Fruciante's backing vocals on those albums. No one is worse than Kiedis, ever.

9I almost went looking for video examples, then realized I didn't actually want to sit and listen to them. Kiedes remains undefended!andyman wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 11:40 amThe funny thing about that: when that album blew up they were absolutely everywhere for a good couple of years. 10Was just discussing this with a friend and it feels particularly relevant here.
