Drifting out of topic here but there was a local guy who said he couldn't fix a broken knob on a 2x12 Peavey Special. This wasn't a dude that was a particularly great tech so I'm taking it w/ a grain of salt but his whole thing was that he couldn't get parts for it. Any of our actual techs here in the tech room been inside old Peaveys to confirm if these can even be repaired? I suspect the prices of these have been so rock bottom that most folks have been like "chuck it" if it goes wonky.

That amp was a surprisingly decent-sounding & versatile amp, getting towards the end of the "good years" of Peavey lineage.
Even if you couldn't source the correct PCB-mount pot, there's no reason you couldn't install a regular pot in there and fly some wires down to the board. I do it all the time. You may not get a matching knob if the shaft is different, but you'll get something usable.
That's exactly what I suspected but wasn't able to confirm. That geographical area has always been very lean w/ solid amp techs & he never got any further business from me after that.
I would still hold out for a Standard 260 for the same price, and not have to deal with PCB-mount pots and jacks to begin with.

The Peavey Special 130 has a couple push-pull switching pots, and uses a center detent pot for the presence control, so I could imagine someone seeing that and just giving up. Mouser/Digi-Key can be daunting for non-actual-professionals.

I shouldn't buy a Travis Bean bass, right?

I dont even play bass in a project right now. Sure, I record basic bass parts when I write stuff to present demos to the band, but I have a Rickenbacker 4001 that rules. I was planning on just getting a Squier P-Bass for some Fender tones when the Rick was too Ricky.

After getting a Bean guitar back in the fold and it laying waste to all my other guitars, it should would be nice to have the bass equivalent. But $4k for something that is kinda a secondary thing at the moment seems stupid...yet that didnt stop me from buying a nice drum set....or bass amp.....or

i think you're liable to find more utility and pleasure, lower expense notwithstanding, in selecting a squier for what, if i'm reading you right, is to be a supporting item on your second instrument.

the squier basses are as good as they've ever been. if you need a second bass that badly, get one of those & a para bass EQ and maybe a boost pedal.

Hey that drum set was such a ridiculously good deal I'm kicking my own ass for not grabbing it..

An aluminum bass neck project (or a Jury build?) would be fun and rewarding even if you "only" played it at home (isn't that most of us these days, most of the time). A real TB is hard to justify even if it was your main jawn.

Man, that drum set...that might be the best score I have had in a decade. I can't imagine a nicer sounding set of drums. I still can't believe at that price dude threw in all the nice stands and THREE (3) different kick pedals. Big appreciation for you posting it.

My $0.02: if you own a 4001 you’re like 95% to that sound anyway. When I had a newer 4003 it could total do the Bean thing pretty dang well, it just came down to I find the 2000 more comfortable to play based on the position of the bridge on the body.

You could always have Jury build you an aluminum bass with Precision pickups and then you’ve got something different that can cover those sounds for when you need them!

I’ll talk you into it and say that $4000 for a vintage Bean bass is a solid price and that is a totally reasonable place to park money for a few years until it becomes even more valuable.

They’re not coming back down unless the economy collapses completely. In which case your extra $4K will probably be equally worthless.
