I wasn't really familiar with Debra Messing before Will & Grace.

On seeing the show she was instantly highly appealing to me.

A few years later (and having cleared a fair amount of childhood trauma) I was watching an interview with her. She was calm, measured in her responses and quite different to the character of Grace.
I noticed that the previous attraction I'd felt was diminished and couldn't quite understand why. It wasn't her looks.

Then it dawned on me. "Holy shit! a large part of the attraction was the character's neurosis!"

It can be funny getting these windows into your inner workings sometimes.
