Was going to be this coming Tuesday but got moved up by our OB due to blood pressure concerns. Had a few concerns post-birth but after four nights in the hospital we came home Friday and are starting to figure out balancing our routine and sleep deprivation.

He’s a beautiful little guy and my heart just mushes up every time I look at him, and both he and mom are doing great!
It's been a joy becoming friends with forum members over the years and watching their respective journeys through life. You and J are going to be terrific parents. So happy for all three of you. Salut!

i think we've reached the PERFECT AGE with my kid (ftr that would be 5y5m)

she's a couple months into german kindergarden and is picking up the language *like it's nothing*, she'll regularly start chatting with me in German now just like that. And all around she's clever and nice, genuinely fun to hang out with.

she helps with cleaning up n shit and i don't have to chase her around the house to brush her teeth anymore. That plus she's as loving and full of life as ever. She only loses her temper when we let her get too tired (but even then she's sweet).

and most importantly, she's started to appreciate Deerhoof. "she sings like a child. Like me!"

Congrats, TC!

Oh, and just you wait. You think your heart leaps now, wait until he gets to his second or third month and flashes his first real smile.

i can tell this podcast is going to get big. they won't tell you libertarian is a dirty word.

some people grow up and have kids. they say things like, "i can't remember the person i used to be. having kids changed me." that's fine but i can't say that. i still know exactly what i was thinking when i did/said whatever 30 years ago. i'm fundamentally the same guy i was in 2000 and it has made it so much easier relating to my kids.

Milestone reached. My 12 year old daughter’s trip to see the Big Book of British Smiles. Which is an unusual experience compared to New Zealand. Basically she qualifies for free (yes free) NHS metal braces value around £4k… but the orthodontist also offers Invisalign clear braces for £5k. “Can I just pay the difference?”… nope. Reason why not forthcoming but the Orthodontist was equally confused by this.

Luckily I have a very chilled 12 year old that just shrugged and said “whatever”.
