I am looking for an 8-channel rack-mount mixer with direct-outs. I know of the Ashly MX-508, but they're a bit more than I want to spend. Is there anything similar out there? Preferably used.

Shitty Behringer makes a rack mixer for $200. It has inserts on each CH, and the send can be used as a direct out. You can maybe find a used Allen Heath Mix Wizard or a old Crest X20r if you have like 10-12 rack spaces to blow. Old Tascam MX-80 from Ebay would work the same way. I guess you could wire up some cables that tied the send and returns together so you can send it out out something and also pass it through the mixer. or use a patchbay to do it.

Thanks, Kniferide. I will look into those. I used to run an old Fostex 450 with 8 strips, but have since sold it. I'd rather rack something this time around.

Something like this could be interesting. It has a mic/line in that you could use the Send of the insert as a direct out, and it also has a weird little Tape input on each channel that can be used to monitor like a inline console,

Not a lot. I think I paid around $80 for the Fostex. I could probably go $250.
