I just black-friday dealed myself a new PC. Ryzen 7900x3d came with 32GB free ram, got a Refurb Asus motherboard and a cpu cooler, recycled a power supply, case and ssd. Fired it up last night and I'm happy to say I didn't fuck anything up in the building process. Then I ordered a bunch of cables and shit for maximum connectivity. All in I spent about $800.

I think you and I are maybe the last PT hold-outs around here other than EA employees so I'm eager to read how this works out for you. I've got 3 macs at least 10 years old or more that are due for replacement as well & now that my partner is gainfully employed, this might finally be on the list. That being said, upgrading could get very expensive, very quickly as I'd need a new interface to replace the old 002 I've used for like 20 years.

That being said, my partner also eligible for educator's discount so $99 a year wouldn't be the worst option for me if Reaper doesn't work out. The idea of learning a new DAW to the point of achieving a similar comfort level from 25 years of PT use sounds shittier every passing year.

(I have a couple of extra "Reaper Cult..." cloaks around here somewhere....)

I just dropped way too much on connectors...9 fucking connectors. Stupid weird vintage garbage.
I ordered extra 'cause someone is actually selling the right ones I need to build PSUs and Cables for Altec Coke Bottle mics. If anyone else is looking, They're on ebay and they seem to have a fair amount in stock.
I'll be ordering bulk cable for these and the lipstick mics soon.

Fired the new PC up this weekend and I didn't fuck anything up! This thing runs smooth as shit for something with 12 cores at 4.4 gigglehertz.

Hilarious, because I was ALSO still using my 002R. I picked up a b-stock Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen for $347. I’ll let you know how it all goes but so far Reaper 7 is completely different than PT8 and PT11 (no experience with any newer version). Expect near zero overlap of hot keys. I have to watch a you tube video on practically every aspect. I started to familiarize myself with it by dropping in stems of a recent recording. But now I’m starting a new project and have to google how to change the input channel on a track because I cannot figure it out from the menus nor right clicks. Oh yeah, I feel like every menu in Reaper is right click somewhere. That’s an adjustment. It seems super deep. I’m like a 10 tasks max kinda guy. I learn a new trick in a DAW like once a month prior to this. A little overwhelmed. Next stop, trying to figure out how to set up a bus channel in this one.
