I have searched high and low for good analog to Adat conversion boxes and here is what I have found.
The behringer unit mentioned above is the cheapest functional way to do it and does seem to work fine.
The Audient ASP880 is the higher end version of the same thing.
You can put a used MOTU 828 MK3 into standalone mode and convert the line inputs to the ADAT outputs, might be a pain to set up... I don't know. You could maybe also use a used Focusrite or Digi002, or any old IO if you can get into the software mixer. Not my favorite solution.
Weirdest solution: You can buy a used Alesis HD24 hard disk recorder for between 300-500 bucks and with it you can convert (in pairs) either 24 line in to ADAT OR Line out to ADAT, all 24 channels, but you get either/or not by directional!
Best, but hardest to find solution: Stupid SM Audio for a very short time made a box that did nothing but take 8 line inputs and turn them into ADAT outputs. It was perfect and I've only seen one in the wild and lost the bid. It is absurd that someone doesn't still make this box. It was perfect.

Expensive solution. MOTU 8A. It's an i/o but can be used as a stand alone converter.
It's insane that someone doesn't make a simple box that just converts the analog to ADAT, but pretty much nobody does that I can find. All things considered, the Behringer is the most low cost/still in production/actually works and easy to find solution that isn't some sort of weird bandaid.

If it went up against a T-800, I'd put a whole box of Jellybeans on the HD24.
Worth noting that the "XR..." version might have had an upgraded set of converters. Never heard anything except the "MKI..." version, but I've never felt like it was inferior in any way.

1633The Steinberg 824 interface can run in a standalone mode as well, I believe. It even has a word clock in so you can clock it off of a better interface;) Of course, it has mic pres that you have to go through with low gain. I also was once looking for a line level to ADAT box, but I just said F-it and stopped using my console. Now I need the 8 mic pre to ADAT, so I'm just waiting for a good Audient or RME to fall into my lap.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1634Does anyone know if B&W made covers for the back jacks of their speakers? I’ve got a pair of floor standing DM604s and I know at some point our little dude will start crawling and I’d like to make sure he can’t get all up in that.
I could probably just cut down a small piece of plastic to screw in on the cover, with a hole for the speaker cable drilled out, but hoped there’s a less janky solution out there.

1635You were looking to cover the terminals which leads me to think the concern is electrocution. You probably do not have to worry over this unless you are pumping out SERIOUS volume...in which case do you really want to damage your child's hearing?
"A typical 100-watt amplifier powering an 8-ohm speaker would produce about 4 amps at 30 volts, which most people would not feel."
(also, not being on the socials any more I didn't know so congratulations!)

Biggie ditto...

1637Yep. You could probably stick your tongue to it and be ok. Also, love you congratulations. Can't wait for tall baby posts about bass amps and shit.Garth wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 5:09 pm You were looking to cover the terminals which leads me to think the concern is electrocution. 1638As someone who routine works with 24v industrial controls, 24V at 4A isn’t cool to get as a surprise
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1639Shit, my daughter managed to unplug something halfway and got her fingers between the wall outlet and the plug, I'm pretty sure she pinched (or touched) the metal prongs, and remained unharmed.
She was tiny!
That was one of my 'Dad of the Year' moments for sure.
It wasn't an SVT or anything though...
