I love Contrapoints and I used to watch everything she uploaded but, goddamn, I cannot sit and watch a feature-length video essay, which is how long her videos are anymore.

The Even More News channel with Dr. Mr. Cody also got to be a slog to get through, hitting those hour-plus durations. I remember that started for that channel with their in-depth dissection of fascism episode.

Bless them all, they're doing the good work, but my patience for YT tops out at fifteen minutes and I'm usually watching baseball clips or cooking shows or guitar restorations.

Still get a NC from me.

Fascinating video, but I found myself getting really annoyed by the mistakes. He's clearly smart, and cares, etc, but pronouncing piqued as peekweed - which might be some kind of joke I'm not in on, tbf - and saying 'two-thirty a.m. in the morning', and a bunch of other things, really got on my nerves.

Still, hats off to him for the work involved, and for being right about plagiarism

Hbomberguy is immensely frustrating because he clearly does a lot of research but fails to understand that when it comes to being funny, less is more. We don’t need to see him in a burnt lab coat in front of … whatever that background is supposed to be. We don’t need the same abrupt cut joke over and over.

It’s really annoying. This video’s content was interesting enough to outweigh the irritation his schtick engendered, but I can’t see watching his stuff on a regular basis until he fucking reins it in.

Yeah, like I said upthread, there’s too much dross in most of these people’s videos.

Obviously, even aggressively cutting back on his jokey shit wouldn’t bring this down to less than 3 hours, but that’s what episodic structure is for. There’s no need to have one video that covers all these plagiarists.

Nor does he need to go over every article they ever wrote, line by line to make his point.

Is there some kind of algorithm-manipulating reason for these long-ass videos Youtube seems to be recommending me at the moment? Youtubers and other influencers complaining about one another might be fine for ten minutes or so, but holds absolutely no appeal when it goes for five fucking hours.

Munecat is a good option. Actually funny and charming but solidly researched and smart.

HBomber is pretty solid but the newer stuff just seems like YouTube drama.

Philosophy Tube is now unfortunately a mono topic channel that primarily acts as a promotional vehicle for the creator. I still watch but I don’t jump on releases like I used to.
