I don't really like heavy metal at all, though I will concede 80s Metallica is one of the best exemplars of that genre. Stooges and AC DC (bluesy groove rock) are probably closest comparisons to 90s Metallica
The band was absolutely hated by a large segment of their fan base for making those albums.

Love this album, but it's certainly not consistently hated. More of a case if you would have said you liked Cut the Crap or maybe even Give 'Em Enough Rope.losthighway wrote: The Clash- Sandinista. 13Give 'Em Enough Rope is a great record, but Cut The Crap fuckin' sucks. Strummer intended it as a return to a raw punk sound, yet it sounds like A-Ha.

17The only Metallica album I actively dislike is Death Magnetic. The recycled riffs, the extreme compression, it just all seemed insulting, like they were trying to superficially capture a moment that happened 20 years prior to please a particular sort of fan who isn't going to be pleased with anything they make anyway. I think there were some pretty good songs on Load and Reload. St. Anger could have been fine if they used snare wires and released it as a hardcore album under a different name, like The Jimmy Hetfield Experience.

"Hated" may be too strong, but even Big Dipper fans seem to dislike this one, and I never could quite understand why. Slam had some pretty great tracks: "Bony Knees of Nothing", "Impossible Things", "Picnic".

19It's hard to find a SONG on that record that doesn't suck, much less the whole of it's parts.
