No, it should be about who did it best. Extra points for going first, but If the new one is best, I will cede to them. Lady Gaga is neither first or best. I profoundly disagree.

But I do think it’s unfortunate how a newer iteration can conceal and make you forget about earlier ones. Such a situation at least sets up the possibility for manipulation.

No one is equating her with Mother Teresa. She's a millionaire pop star who writes songs that make people feel good. You could call that pandering, I guess, but what I would say is that she's a real musician who cares about music.

Yeah, of course they are diminished. You have taken money to endorse something you don't understand. If I give you enough money, I expect you will also endorse other questionable stuff? I would say this is light years from "selling out" like Dirty being on a major label....that said (and no, I don't expect some idiot musician to think this hard)......
