I think there needs to be some kind of criteria here for hate, as these two records were huge then and remain critical and popular darlings. Sure, some of us were too cool for Trent’s melodramatic dance music, but hate is a strong word.

Yes. I suppose I read this thread's idea as: Albums People Who Care About Music Often Dismiss But You Enjoy.

Or for those who like to be succinct (I struggle): Underrated Albums Among Music Nerds.

You're probably right, though not all, but some of those albums listed above received real hate from critics and or fans. Like Metal Machine Music, Load, Sixteen Stone, Bitches Brew.

I haven't had the courage to reappraise this. It came out when I was 12 and like the Silverchair album that came out the following year I associate it with the early adolescent stage of adopting anything marketed with guitars and totally rejecting it a year or two later.

In fact I remember in my later teen years thinking that getting past the cycle of musical infatuation and later rejection was the mark of ending musical puberty. No longer taking things on you'd be embarrassed about later.

But I digress. Could be a good thread if I can articulate it properly.

I think it's a good thread already brother. I love you guys so much. It's like y'all are family.

Have you tried listening to Metal Machine Music while posting? Might help focus your thoughts. I know you sometimes have problems articulating yr thoughts. It's something we all struggle with. No shame, man.

Make sure to turn it up real loud, now.

Oh I don't think it's too strong for what went on it that thread. A general lack of comprehension - which often leads to insecurity and subsequent lashing out - led to post after post dissing NINs music. Often in the most personal, insulting terms. I'd imagine Trent had built up a thick enough skin that reading thru it would have rolled off his back, if he had done so.
