Re: Debut dome: The B-52s vs Devo
2Damn..
They both lose a little steam by side B but I think The B-52s trails off more. The closing track on AWNM is super dumb though.
going with Devo, but not by a lot.

3Pretty much this, though am going to vote for The B-52s because that is one hell of a first side.penningtron wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:55 am Damn..

4I dunno, side 2 still has Lava on it, and Hero Worship, which is a heck of a song. Go listen to Cindy's vocal on Hero Worship and tell me that is not a heck of a song. It does end on a low key number, which is ok!
If i had to choose one it'd have to be the B-52s, and I'd still be fine with other Devo stuff like Hardcore or Duty Now For The Future. It helps that they had already recorded several albums worth of material before their debut. But these are two great yellow records, better than most records of any colour.

5B-52s by a long shot. "52 Girls" is one of my favorite guitar songs ever.
I've decided that Devo ultimately is a novelty act; one of the better examples, but still novelty. Hardcore has the better versions of many of those songs.

6I remember as a child being invited to my first birthday party at Marlo Garcia's house and hearing "Rock Lobster." Weird!

7Side two also has my very favorite B-52s song: “There’s a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon).”Anthony Flack wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:58 pm I dunno, side 2 still has Lava on it, and Hero Worship, which is a heck of a song. 8Oh god no. Mac Sabbath is a novelty band. Devo is conceptual, and to a lesser degree so are The B-52s.enframed wrote: Thu Dec 28, 2023 9:27 am I've decided that Devo ultimately is a novelty act; one of the better examples, but still novelty.

9Conceptual and novelty are not mutually exclusive. See Gwar.penningtron wrote: Thu Dec 28, 2023 11:30 amOh god no. Mac Sabbath is a novelty band. 10Not concerned about whether Devo and/or the B-52s are conceptual or novelty bands. They both kick ass and are/were great live bands.
