I’m fairly sure my mother thinks the same but at this point she knows better than to say anything about it.
In my family, Catholicism has done really bad things.

Re: Politics
974If you are putting more effort into “helping” the people who are advocating for the genocide of people like me and my family than you are helping trans people (or any marginalized group) who are literally being forced into situations of homelessness, abuse, and loss of lifesaving medical care, why should I feel good about that?hbiden@onlyfans.com wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 12:29 pmthat could be politicalFrankie99 wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:30 am Well, if that family member is actively arguing for the suffering/abuse/dehumanization of your kids/sibling/close friends, etc, then their politics are a pretty good reason to end a relationship with them I'd say.
or it could be just an awkward person who has less brain power than you and doesn't understand how they have been manipulated by the system.
the bottom line is they need your help if they have truly gone off the deep end.
I don’t even think it’s people’s fault for being bigoted and I genuinely feel bad for their predicament even though they want people like me eliminated—no one chooses the conditions they will be born into, their abilities to learn and process information, and systemically education (in the us at least) is beyond fucked up, and my years of studying physics and philosophy combined makes me incredibly doubtful free will is a real thing—but unfortunately when you keep bigoted friends around and expend time and energy on them, that’s not only less time and energy that could go towards the people affected by their views, but also it keeps us away in general. I have enough on my plate to deal with already, the last thing I want to happen is have a PTSD episode triggered by the intolerance of someone’s friend or family member that they insist on keeping around

975ok, permission granted to "eliminate" your "genocidal" friends and family.Hex wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:51 amIf you are putting more effort into “helping” the people who are advocating for the genocide of people like me and my family than you are helping trans people (or any marginalized group) who are literally being forced into situations of homelessness, abuse, and loss of lifesaving medical care, why should I feel good about that?hbiden@onlyfans.com wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 12:29 pmthat could be politicalFrankie99 wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:30 am Well, if that family member is actively arguing for the suffering/abuse/dehumanization of your kids/sibling/close friends, etc, then their politics are a pretty good reason to end a relationship with them I'd say.

Re: Politics
976lol @ hb@of and the semantic game of "shitty politics and shitty people are one and the same, therefore it's not political."
Re: Politics
977And, for clarity, the reason I don't interface with the idea of saviorism or teaching other people that hating minority groups is "bad" is because the notion that somehow there will be revelation or reckoning with their own shitty worldview and coming to a more compassionate conclusion about others is exceedingly rare, despite the uplifting feels you might get from entertaining that. Makes a good after school special, but that's about it.
Nope. That's a fool's errand.

Re: Politics
979To HB's point, personal convictions are bleeding into discussions on policy, making defining (especially American) "politics" a total morass. Thinking of this as the necessary separation between Church and State. If you are a gun lover, there should be a way to talk to you about your secular love of firearms, AND separately a governing policy that serves all. These things might not always align to your personal preference, and a reasoning person should be prepared to make that concession. I see this kind of thing as basically irreconcilable any more. Thus, statis....and a whole lot of useless hollering. 2024 is going to be awesome.
