What are Tom Hanksy characters? I haven't seen him in enough roles to know. The stuff he did in Cloud Atlas (all great) struck me as rather unusual for him, but maybe it isn't.
I'll make an exception for Forrest Gump, he did kind of disappear into that one. But generally a Hanksy character is an affable American man, not particularly eccentric. Thinking of him in Saving Private Ryan, Castaway, Apollo 13 etc. Most big stars are pretty much always a shade of themselves. Matt Damon, Brad Pitt or George Clooney also couldn't play Colonel Tom Parker. Daniel Day Lewis is a great example of a changeling he might be up to the task.

I finally watched Gerontophilia from Bruce LaBruce and while it wasn't my favorite BLAB effort I appreciated its sincerity and warmth, which is odd for a director whose body of work is filled with radical left politics and explicit gay sex. No porn this go around, just a charming look at a May/December queer romance + road movie, though I would argue viewing the elderly as sexual beings is quite radical.

Watched Ferrari and enjoyed it. Didn't know the story.

I've always liked Adam Driver, and he has a little bit of business in this film that I just loved. Ferrari is walking through a restaurant to meet privately with other heads of racing/production motor companies, and he stops at a table in the main dining room when he sees a man he knows. The guy has both of his arms on the table, and Ferrari walks up, slaps the back of his hand against the back of the other guy's hand, then touches his arm. I wondered if he improvised it or whether it's some sort of standard Italian greeting, but in any event I really liked that choice and I'm going to be doing it until someone punches me in the balls.
