I've been interested in checking one of these amps out too but Yamaha stuff is pretty uncommon around this area for amps/guitars so never have seen nor heard one in person.

I can second the G12K-100 speaker though. I have a pair in an X in my marshall cabinet and really like them. I think they're a good fit w/ the Vintage 30s that are in the same cab.

The one I own was my brother's live amp(well, the combo T50C...) for a pretty good stretch.

A horn player was standing on it while taking a solo in "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35". Buddy wiped out, and the combo went over face first. The guy folded up like a jack knife, and his butt went right down into the open back of the cabinet.

They just picked it back up, and kept on trucking. I think it was "On..." the entire time.

As long as you stay off of that second channel?

Total keeper. Just a great "Nuts..."/"Bolts..." sound.

As for the design?

I think that there was some sort of a falling out because Yamaha made some changes once it was in production.

So, I don't know how close to the Soldano amp in question it actually is.

yah pretty widely-documented Soldano had major beef about shortcuts that went into production of the T100.

There are also a lot of mods out there too that get the T series yamahas closer to the Soldanos like adding a choke. But there are lots of folks who love them as-is, probably a use-your-ears sitch for sure.

yeah, a choke is cheap and easy enough to install I'll likely give it a go, and if the dirty channel isn't inspiring then I'll mess around with that a bit. I like the idea of a bullet proof combo with some wild hair on tap, and the bleak aesthetic speaks to me in a way mesa/boogie doesn't for whatever reason.

Damn that's some crazy proximity effect. Like a low shelf that's +/- 5db with every inch you move the mic you can really make that telecaster chug. Old EVs are so fun.

Did an overhaul of an A/V set-up for my family. It was months in the making and surprisingly involved. As compensation, I now have a much better bass rig. New Class D head, which I run into a bigger cab. Gets loud, sounds noice!

Also bought an Earthquaker Zoar pedal for guitar. Very useful, versatile, and affordable for what it does.

Not really buying anything per se but getting my head stack back from JRF Magnetics post-relap.

I don't expect this to resolve all the issues on my 8-track but it needed to be done.

Word to the wise, they've been talking about retirement for a while. If you're still an analog hold out and your heads are due for inspection/relap, I wouldn't wait.

Just got a FMR RNC and RNLA racked together on Reverb for $340, which seems fair for two pretty cool stereo compressors plus a rack tray. Also got a Beyerdynamic M70x (kinda a RE20ish thing) coming. I already have one but this guy was on reverb for $69 (nice) so why not. Maybe I'll start a podcast. It's a not bad vocal and snare mic. Probably work for guitar.
