That looked amazing. Good vibes are good vibes, get ‘em while they’re there.

Well fuck. First big problem since treatment started, which is going very well so far…

Due to my compromised immune system an Influenza A infection turned into an A&E visit and a week in bed. Brutal. I’m now on Tamiflu.

So, myeloma chemo induction cycle completed without much stress. I’m actually feeling pretty good aside from problems with my taste. No hair loss, gained a bit of weight from the steroids and some temporary fatigue and joint pain.

Next step is a Stem Cell Transplant. Which is both extremely hardcore and anticlimactic.

Anyone have experience with this procedure?

I’m basically having my immune system rebooted to Day Zero. Meaning I’ll have to redo all my childhood vaccinations 😬. A month in isolation in a nice hotel attached to the university hospital then three months of shielding.

Weirdly all this isn’t bothering me that much. Even the likely shortened life span. I kind of had a subconscious “will to death” anyway and now I can spend my retirement set asides on travel and experiences.

My father in law is far into the Multiple Myeloma treatment. Stem-cell was a while back. I know it knocked him the fuck out. He started Car-T treatment in trial, and is currently clear of all signs. It'll largely be a game of monitoring platelet and white cell counts. God speed Gramsci

Cheers man. They expect I’ll recover pretty fast because I’m relatively young and in good shape. Fingers crossed they’re right.

It’s supposed to delay progression for a decade or so then it’s square one again or different treatments. The Car T isn’t available here yet but will be by the time I’m due second line treatment. It’s a very fast moving field of research. I’m definitely not counting on a miracle cure but new treatments are coming on line a lot. It’s a weird cancer to have. It just does this one thing, doesn’t spread and doesn’t “do cancer stuff”. It’s just going to wipe out my ability to fight infection if it’s not managed… which kills ya…

I’ve got a month in a nice hotel in central london beside the hospital. I’m taking a pile little plastic Warhammer soldiers to paint 😂
