I hadn't considered a semi-permanent dolly, sounds like the way to go, thank you. I considered just using a moving dolly like it's sitting on in the photo but those are kinda PITA (I still cannot figure out how Dylan got it up and down the stairs of his studio alone). I might do something w/ T-nuts in the base so it can be taken off without having to undo one million screws. Regardless I definitely want to go w/ bolts instead of wood screws considering how beefcake this thing is.

I have a feeling this is going to be a practice/recording bass cab unless I just decide to sell off the speakers individually. They look brand new.

Update. JFC those Altecs seem to have jumped in asking price. I could sell 3 of the 4 and cover what I paid for the Sunn head (#bragalert, sorry).

This made a lot of sense, especially considering how some of those Ampeg cabs could be upgraded from the factory with the Altecs, but I looked up a few and I don't think this is an ampeg cab. The biggest reason is that I haven't seen any Ampegs where it has the porting all the way across the front. The V2 seems to have two smaller rectangular ports left and right. Mine also seems to have a thicker edge around the grill than the Ampegs as well.

The mystery continues!

Maple Stave did this with Chris’ Avatar 4x12 cab!

Not a Garnet expert, but I went though google image search and the current Garnet site and didn't see any that look like this one. The main issue is the venting in the middle between the upper & lower two speakers. Hard to see through the grill cloth but you get a bit of an idea with the back off.

An additional identifier is that this cab does have a slightly thicker "wall" around that front grill cloth. This allows for the 3-leg cab corners vs most other mfgs will use 2-banger with a little lip as they just fit around the 3/4" mdf or plywood.

That vent in the middle is the other main identifier. Similiarly, you can just see the middle venting in what image search says is a Peavey Musician cabinet...

...but the sidewalls & three-leg corners up front nix this as a possibility - plus who would go to the trouble of taking off the aluminum rails?

A couple additional potential identifers are the strap locations on the side (one has been removed) and the cup-style single input jack that is offset from center around the back.

It looks like I can take the grill cloth off with a series of flat-head screws but Im loathe to do this.

Hmm yeah thats the closest fit so far. I scoured the internet to try to find an oversized and vented 4x12 Sunn cab like that w zero success.

There are a couple key differences though with mine - the more distinctive cabinet corners plus someone would have had to have replaced the grill cloth and added piping but not outside the realm of possibility.

But it does make the most sense that there was a sunn cab paired with the sunn head.

The wood, construction, tolex, corners, handle hardware and placement, and Altecs all scream late 60s/early 70s era Ampeg. The grill and piping would have been redone. I too would have said V2 if it weren’t for the type of venting. Maybe it was a prototype and decided to do the two small holes in production because it was cheaper?

I agree that a caster cart might be the way. Or just mount casters to the side that doesn’t have the handles (much easier the wheel such a large cab that way).
