I'm Back! (aka: climbing out of the renovation/pandemic rubble)

Hey fam,

Been a minute. Feeling the pangs of missing the simpler forum life, before social media chaos made it impossible to have a community and to actually have conversations with people about our interests...

I'm currently unpacking my entire music life... All of my home studio equipment and musical instruments have been packed up in storage since even before lockdown, as we embarked on a major home renovation that ended up taking about 6 years... luckily we had ordered a bunch of the materials like flooring, paneling, etc before the pandemic, so luckily we didn't get completely hosed... but needless to say it's been a slog. I had a nervous breakdown (literally) in the middle of it all, which was wild! But I managed to save my marriage, business and some friendships through it all... Anyway, I'll save that story for the General Forum... right now let's talk about the fun stuff... I'm opening boxes, putting gear into racks, realizing I have multiples of things (I bought a lot of stuff during the covid haze) and am listing stuff for sale... consolidating... Etc. etc.

I'm thinking about maybe doing a youtube vlog of my progress and projects as I put it all together... I find that might help me to stay motivated, even if nobody watches it. I know I find that kind of stuff on YT therapeutic (Anybody here watch twoodfrd or alexball?)

Anyway... here's some pics of the stuff I've been unearthing and setting up:

Life sure has changed since the pandemic. (I got two kids to prove that.) I went through a major home renovation project about two years ago. It was 3 months long (even longer if you take in the small stuff), and it was hell on earth. I feel ya man, I can't imagine a 6 year project was good on your mental health or your personal and work life. It sounds like you went through a lot, but came out better on the other side.

Welcome back!

He's Southern(-ish) Brooklyn.
Ah... the California of New York?

Also love those Ashly preamps (and compressors), I don't know what it is about their sound, but the aesthetic is great too.

Thanks guys... yeah, it's been rough. This is just the first batch of stuff... stull need to dig out my guitars and basses... then maybe set up drums or find a spot for them in the huge closet in this room... then I need to get everything connected and learn how to set up some patchbays. I plan to make mostly electronic music at this point with some occasional drums, bass guitar... Who knows.

I love this A&H mixer! It basically covers all my needs. I have the Ashly MX-508 for a drum machine submix, or for if I eventually do any touring or gigs, I can use that as my mobile unit. I also plan to use the TEAC 2A in some capacity, for color or just extra routing... I'm also eyeing Yamaha M406 for some other flavor and possibly a mixdown for the MR66...

I have totes filled with cables I made right before dismantling this stuff about 5-6 years ago... and I have totes filled with bulk cable, connectors and the crimping tools... It's gonna be a while before it's all put back together. But hopefully it will be rewarding.
