Since a few people mentioned Dearborn: I have tried them and find them to be pretty well-made. They’re 92% cotton / 7 Poly / 1 Elastane, so they are a little stretchy, which makes them comfortable but probably will also make them harder to invisibly repair over a long life (> 10 years). They’ve lasted OK for me - 3 years in so far on 3 different pairs. I am not very hard on pants and I don’t wear boot cuts, so take with salt. (They do have a boot cut, though.) I look at them as basically a more-ethical alternative to modern Levi’s with slightly better fits (for me).

Slightly more spendy: APC’s New Standard selvage jeans have lasted well for me; I have a pair from 2007 that are still going strong.

+1 on Cone Mills denim, if you can find it. Wears well, good quality, but spendy. Same goes for denim from Yoshiwa Mills in Japan.

I buy Union Works jeans, they fit me well. My calves are simply too powerful for slim fit, so straight cut does the job. I did almost spend €200 on a pair of jeans in Nimes (the birthplace of denim) but then came to my senses and spent it on wine and charcuterie instead. Sometimes wonder what my life would’ve been like if I had bought them.

I believe my last three pair have been Dearborn and I like 'em quite a bit. As a total in-between guy on sizes of all clothing, I very much appreciate the half-sizes. The dark wash is nice and dark and that bit of stretch extends some forgiveness when I pack a couple on in the winter. They're pretty thin, which is great in the summer but not so great in the winter. I do not wear jeans at my job, so my wear is nights and weekends, which means I don't wash them too often, which is good as that wash fades pretty easily.

I got 2 pairs of pants from the ROSS Dress For Less. The brand is called Fried Denim. I’m not sure if they are jeans per se because the ones I found were black and brown. Maybe they are more like Carharts or work pants IDK. They are really stretchy and comfy. They seem to be pretty durable. I like them a lot. I just tried a g**gle search and I could not find a website or anything for them. Kinda weird.

So if you usually shop at places like Marshall’s/TJ Maxx/Ross/etc. I would say it would be worth keeping an eye out for this brand.

Like many on this message board I am a portly middle aged white male BTW

I haven’t worn out a knee in jeans for 3 decades. Us chubby dudes wear out the crotch WAY before anything else. They basically disintegrate in 2 years of multiple uses per week.

Jeans have always been tough to find for me being short and not thin. Case in point: in the last two months I’ve ordered 20 pairs of different jeans/sizes from 5 companies. I kept 5 that fit because I had gotten down to one pair of jeans that didn’t have holes in the crotch. I didn’t keep any of the Dearborn I ordered because they were too big and didn’t have the cut I wanted the size down (out of stock in basically all colors of my size). Loved that you could get 28 length though, which is RARE. Their customer service was great and I think the company is Chicago local. Will likely try them again in the future.

Really loving the Bonobos pair I got so far. No idea how durable they are going to be but they are the best fitting Jean I’ve ever found for my weird fucking body. Previously the Old Navy 360 slim tapers were the winners.

There's lots of private label stuff out there, this Fried is probably one of them. A quick search reveals that Fried is a trademark owned by of USA Design, Inc. Most likely, that company was paid to create Fried jeans as a private label for for some retailer like Macy's or similar.
