13I'd like to add "boss" to the dislike pile.
Re: Service Industry Term of Endearment: Hon vs My Dear
14I actually kind of like boss, I'll take that over chief or bro or whatever.
As far as SIToE: hon.

15A lady at a school I worked at called me "pumpkin' a few weeks ago.
I didn't mind.

18Hon is one of those things that makes me question the extent of my latent "isms". Older diner lady, hon is solid. Some kind of white collar job lady, someone closer to my age, it's like fightin' words. Also flamboyant gay men and women of color can call me hon anytime. I guess straight men don't call men hon because that's never happened.
I don't know why certain people can do this and others can't. I think it's a condescending vs endearing quality.
I don't know if anyone has ever called me my dear.

19My old day job at a hospital, the ladies of color called me all sorts of things, some of them very, uh, colorful, and it was all very endearing and funny.
Someone needs to name a song Pumpkin Status.

20As a non Usonian I’m very partial to waitresses or waiters for that matter call me Hon when I’m over there.
