Crazy. Did they put a bullet in the deer's head? And how long did it take to clean up?
I had gone back inside after I realized there was little I could do. Then I heard the gunshot. Don't know where they shot it, but there was a fair amount of blood. It was hanging there for a couple of hours afterwards. The funny part was that dog-walkers and exercising suburbanites just went by the scene without even noticing , because it sort of blended in, and nobody is really looking for something like that.

Yikes. Poor thing.

The cops should have made an announcement over their scanner that there was a clean, dead deer just bleeding out. Where I live, it would have taken less than 5 minutes for someone in a pickup truck to come by and "clean" it up, i.e., free venison.

Yeah, would have been my first call, but I don't know any local hunters anymore. When I was a kid there was a local dude who was the go-to to try to salvage as much road-kill as possible.
