I'm pretty sure there must be hardly any proper German American Bund left. Most are just regular AR-15 owning boneheads and MAGA extremist thrill seekers driven by evangelical biblical prophesy and White Claw. Christian Zionism has a long and long a storied history predating even the US.

The theology is always too dumb for me even to fucking remember, but what's their angle. Something like all of the Jews get returned to Jerusalem and that's when Christ comes and vaporizes all of the heathens (including the above group) and then takes the true believers to paradise? Bible-heads chime in if you know.

When the left protests in the US, a potpourri of right-wing groups and people frequently show up to counterprotest. It's usually a healthy mix of "usual suspects" you'd find on the SPLC hate map but sometimes it's just Republicans. I really can't reinforce this enough: I encourage all to stop thinking that any American to the right of, say, Cory Booker has any principle they would choose over the chance to repress those to their left with authoritarian power. There can be no ethical dilemma or hypocrisy if you have no principles. You will understand (and be able to predict) their actions much more effectively.

Sarah Posner did a pretty good job of outlining it recently at MSNBC. The broad strokes are:

• (maybe) all the Jews return to Israel ("scattered and regathered"). For some evangelicals the 1948 Nakba is the regathering. Others see it differently.
• Israel is attacked and loses all its friends. Some evangelicals refer to the attacker as "Magog", here is some batshit stuff about that. Some evangelicals consider this to be the start of the end times.
• Israel regains all the land promised in the covenant of Abraham. What exactly this means geographically is unsurprisingly debated. Other evangelicals consider this to be the start of the end times.
• Either or both of the following occur, depending on who you ask:
  • a cataclysm affects all nonbelievers. Some evangelicals believe in a specific number of nonbelievers being vaporized, that the Bible says the number exactly.
  • Israel finally accepts Jesus as its savior
• All the believers go to Heaven
