Whitehouse affiliated project/power electronics stuff. Not having one's shit in order when the board basically IS the band is a "you had ONE job" situation if I've ever heard one.
That was exactly it. And no-one cares about your edgy irritation - it made me really glad music has generally moved on to a better place. The more complicated the band's setup, the better they should be at making sure they're not a nuisance to the sound person/audience/god.

I just added the RAT. I'm trying to find that sweet spot for heavier OD/Distortion. Not quite sold on this one yet, but the rest is solid. I generally have a slightly overdriven amp using EL34s (a JMP sound). I used to use a tube screamer, but I found just having the Emissary works better, because all I really need is a mid boost to liven things up. The Zeus is a Klon, gets nice and dirty with good articulation (or flip the FAT switch for a more full sound, good for bass *wink wink*). The Shaker I feel is the soul of the board, with the EKKO being it's soul mate. And who doesn't love a little trem, even if it's basic?

After a few years working on this board, I don't think I'd ever NOT have a Boss pedal on a board, if anything for the buffer!

Most of this stuff is obvious. I feel that Earthquake fandom on my board is a little silly, but they make so many good ones and I don't dig as deep into boutique stuff in guitar land what with mics and studio stuff taking up too much time I should be doing something else

Tu2, Boss EQ, EQD Talons OD, Crowther Prunes and Custard (filter sweep fuzz/OD), Freakshow 2010 Boost, EQD Hummingbird Trem, Boss DD7, Context Reverb

Couple notes:

Boss EQ- One kind of unusual thing I do is use the eq as a cut. I had an old guitar with the pickup switch in the best place and developed a style of playing into a full gain amp but cutting to the neck pickup with the volume rolled down halfway. My newer guitars just don't feel smooth doing this, I can never grab the switch fast enough on quick transitions so I use the EQ as my dark/volume cut into the overdrive stuff.

EQD Talons- I was kind of in love with this because of its many controls (mid knob!), but I'm kind of souring on it. I like a main overdrive that is somewhere between clean boost and a proper distortion pedal. I want some volume oomph but some grit on tap. This one sometimes just sounds too Y2K Rectifier to me. Other times not. It's very sensitive. If I bump the mid knob with my foot it starts to come across quieter than my clean which is a big no-no for me. Thinking about subbing in the Plumes (although it's a bit too bright) or maybe the Fulltone Plimsoul I have on the shelf.

Freakshow 2010 Boost- This thing makes leads perfect. I'm sure I'd be just as jazzed if it were a EP Boost or a half dozen other clean boosts, but it's the secret weapon. When guitar nerds come up to me after a set and ask what some parts tone was it's usually just the overdrive, this, a reverb and single notes.

Boss DD7- I tried all kinds of snazzy analog and digital delays. This one has two features that were almost impossible to find in well qualified Earthquaker and Keeley delays: It's true stereo- the echos ping pong left and right which creates way more depth than splitting a mono signal between two amps, and it trails off *after* you disengage it, which allows for some nice transitions where a clean guitar can introduce a new part with the halo of the chaos before decrescendoing in the distance.

JFC this all day. Why more pedals don't have the switch behave in this manner is beyond me. Or make it selectable if you want it to chop. Sure, you can do this with something like an LS-2 but then you're doing 2 pedals and not just one.

I think the Hardwire delay does this too and I prefer this slightly more than the Boss but haven't figured out how to replace the switch on mine yet which has rendered it unusable for the most part.

I had a Talons for a long time and the JHS Angry Charlie V3 kicked it off the board. The Angry Charlie’s 3-band EQ is dialed in better. Usable through the range. It sounds a little less aggressive too. It might have too much gain for you though. Maybe check out the Charlie Brown V4 instead for the same concept with less gain.

A couple of Chase Bliss pedals have switches that let a person control the trails. Maybe too bleep-bloopy for a lot of people though. Used MOOD MK1s are maybe $250ish on Reverb and TBH it’s a lot of bang for the buck b/c it’s almost like 3-4 pedals in one box.

I'm intrigued. Here comes a rabbit hole of reviews and videos!
