Wham! were absolutely godfucking awful, but this?
NOT CRAP
Re: Personal memories from the old forum
352Also on the quiet charity front, Prince paid off Clyde Stubblefield's $80,000 medical bill when he was battling bladder cancer.
Which is firmly not crap and the second post today where I get to mention funky drummer.

353Agreed. His voice was a standout.penningtron wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2024 12:46 pmBeyond Wham! I don't think his music was that bad, by '80s pop standards at least. He was also one of the few pop stars to take a stance against the Iraq War.Krev wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2024 11:53 am George Michael quietly gave millions to charity. Despite his aural horrors created, he was a good dude.

354I randomly ran across this great interview / exceedingly patient evisceration a couple months ago:
The context also involves Murdoch-driven harassment for his anti-Blair, anti-Iraq-War stance.

355Oh man, flame war on the "memories from the old forum" thread where a bunch of dudes argue about sexism. Meta AF! Good job, guys!
Re: Personal memories from the old forum
356re: George Michael, I have a soft spot for this tune. Yeah, killer voice, can't fake this (at least back then)

357"Aural horrors" was a bit heavy-handed. George was a good singer. While Wham! was really bad, I'd recommend the Netflix documentary.

Re: Personal memories from the old forum
359Out of curiosity, I looked up Wham’s discography on Wikipedia. George Michael co-produced the first record and was the sole producer of the subsequent records, and he wrote nearly all the material. No ringers brought in to give them hits.
Still not a fan, but my respect increased for them.

Re: Personal memories from the old forum
360George Michael wrote Careless Whisper when he was 17. This was the ideal response to twonks droning on about McCartney writing Yesterday at what, 23?
Then khonnor wrote all of Handwriting at 14/15 and it was checkmate, but still.
