Actually I have a 5 watt tube combo that I run through a cheap attenuator and a 30w head with a good master volume and both are serviceable at home in my flat. I think the pain point is (relatively) high wattage and no master. We all dream of owning vintage amps, but if you're in the city it's hard to pull off well.
Actually, the amp I'd recommend that does great cleans but really growls when turned up is a Wem Clubman. It's 5 watts and you can easily modify it to take an attenuator. Everyone hunts the Dominators but those Clubmans are fantastic practice amps, and aren't all £600 like the Fender Champs have become.
Anyway, this is turning into a thread of its own, so I'll refrain from posting anymore.

962Ah yes, it’s my “office amp” and when most people go home I crank it up. Cranking would be important yes.andyman wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:21 pmAre you able to 'turn it up' or do you live in an 'apartment'?TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:13 pm I have one of those - maybe we have different definitions of 'loud' or different guitars, but mine certainly 'rocks'. It's really all I want in a 'lower' powered combo

963Kurt Ballou is selling this Trident Series 80 12-channel sidecar for a stupid low price and I want it.

964HA! It's gone. Did you buy it? If I had any idea how to turn that into 12 working channels I would have totes jumped on it. Just for inputs and if possible, feed a passive summer in Stereo for mixdowns out of the box. Yum.Nate Dort wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:12 pm Kurt Ballou is selling this Trident Series 80 12-channel sidecar for a stupid low price and I want it.

965There's no way I would have time to drive out to Boston and back to pick that thing up. Just a wishful thinking scenario. Somebody got a deal.

966A guy I recorded a few years ago dropped of a non working Yamaha pm916 just so I could see if it worked for him and has been unresponsive ever since. I thought about seeing what he would take for it (like 200 tops... It passes zero signal) so I could strip out the channels .. but I have no idea how to supply power for such a project and even less time. From what I can tell it is almost the same architecture as a pm1000. People like those.Nate Dort wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:58 pm There's no way I would have time to drive out to Boston and back to pick that thing up. Just a wishful thinking scenario. 967I think that thing needs a LOT of work by a skilled tech - they've been trying to get rid of it via the GroupDIY classifieds for a few years now, and it's been on reverb for a while too.Nate Dort wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:58 pm There's no way I would have time to drive out to Boston and back to pick that thing up. Finding a master channel for it is probably really hard, and without one it’s just half the fun.

969Ruel from five fish audio used to make diy power supplies for PM1000 racking projects. I think it’s this one:Kniferide wrote: Wed Jun 26, 2024 1:27 amA guy I recorded a few years ago dropped of a non working Yamaha pm916 just so I could see if it worked for him and has been unresponsive ever since.
