Re: What are you thinking right this second?
1702Bivalves are OK for a vegan diet, but honey is off-limits. The world is fucking insane.
Re: What are you thinking right this second?
1703No no, that's good. Do we need more vegans on this planet!?

1704To each their own and all that, but a vegan who eats bivalves is lying to themselves

1705Whenever there's a chocolate and vanilla option of something, why do I sometimes think "maybe I should get the vanilla this time, just to change things up". It's never as good and now I have a whole tub of vanilla powder to choke down.
(real vanilla bean is good but this isn't that)

1706are we shorting that to only bivalves!? it seems to me like vegans are lying to themselves when needed...jirbling rake wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:19 am To each their own and all that, but a vegan who eats bivalves is lying to themselves

Re: What are you thinking right this second?
1707That depends on whether bivalves are sentient, which is what is under dispute for the people in question.jirbling rake wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:19 am To each their own and all that, but a vegan who eats bivalves is lying to themselves

1709Oysters, mussels, scallops, and the like.
So, we'll assume they are not because we don't know? I only brought this up because I had to have lunch yesterday with six people, three of whom have dietary restrictions, one of whom informed me that bivalves are OK for vegans, is a self-identified "ostrovegan" (yes, they have their own name, of course), and proceeded to also tell us why eating them is beneficial for the environment.
So I'm surrounded by this group and they look at me to make the order for the table. No thanks. You make the order. I'm not talking about this.
Fuckinghell.
Re: What are you thinking right this second?
1710That's how I feel about it, too. Bivalves are classified as animals so...they're animals. Whether one thinks they're sentient or not is irrelevant. And if you're not going to eat the product of an animal (milk, cheese, honey)—even if you think line harvesting bivalves is less harmful—then you have to extend that to all animals. It's usually the case that the carve outs and exceptions for people based on what they like to eat already.enframed wrote:So, we'll assume they are not because we don't know? Language is beautiful, and allows to make up new words for to describe new things. For instance, Pescatarian. But don't say you're a vegetarian who only eats fish—you're a meat-eater who only eats fish, along with a lot of vegetables. The ingenuity of the human race is its ability to lie to itself about its actions in new ways throughout history.
That, and distortion pedals.
