The last time an American political party went into their convention without knowing who their candidate would be? The 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. That didn't go so well.
Guess what's happening in Chicago in a little less than 2 months?
Re: Politics
1382I don't know why anything that arrogant idiot says should stick with anyone it's so meaningless, but his comments about immigrants really fucking got under my skin. I guess Joe managed to say 'that's a lie'. But that fool got up in front of America and said that immigrants come here from jails and insane asylums and are killing hundreds of thousands of Americans . How the fuck can that specifically bat shit claim not be handily fact checked by moderators and his debate opponent. Like, hundreds of thousands of murders, all by immigrants, and you heard it here first. Mother fuck. So stupid.

1383Weekend at Barry's (I know, Joe is the corpse). Obama would have mopped the floor with Trump in any debate.jimmy spako wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 3:59 am Paraphrasing Matt Lech on MR: "Come on, Obama, get in there [behind the scenes ], pretend it's Bernie Sanders."
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.

Re: Politics
1385It was a reference to Obama throwing his weight behind Biden to get people to drop out and consolidate votes against Bernie in the 2020 primaries. Like he should pretend Biden is Bernie if it helps him to step up and press for a replacement behind the scenes. Not that he could necessarily sway Biden to withdraw in the end.

1386This is a brilliant idea. His term would be over before the case law was settled.twelvepoint wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 8:26 am

Would RFK Jr. really be worse than Trump? He's a fucking kook, but he doesn't seem like a piece of shit.
Re: Politics
1387I honestly don't know if that idea was a joke or not, but I feel like the Trump-era (McConnell era?) Republicans would have no issue pulling a stunt like this themselves.enframed wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:20 amThis is a brilliant idea. Re: Politics
1388Over the past year (or longer) Biden has been one sniffle away from a mausoleum. It's outrageous that Democrats have been out there lying to their constituents for months about his physical and mental capabilities instead of putting forth a suitable candidate.
White Americans - especially the liberal elite ones - are suddenly faced with the loss of democracy with nobody but themselves to blame.

Justice for Dexter Wade and Nakari Campbell
Re: Politics
1389x!00. This collective delusion amongst supporters that "he doesn't have dementia, it's a stutter" hasn't helped either. It's like the Dems are trying to throw the election away.rsmurphy wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 10:32 am It's outrageous that Democrats have been out there lying to their constituents for months about his physical and mental capabilities instead of putting forth a suitable candidate.
I guarantee somewhere in the corridors of power someone is having a discussion about the best way to bump him off because the optics would work so much better with voters.

That being said:
- More than half support Trump anyway, and
- Around half of who is left, at least based on how some folks here and on Bluesky have been talking, seem like they are ready for the shit to just fucking burn itself down
Fuck.
