Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere

For live recording bands and stuff - would you prefer a 16” laptop with 32 GB RAM or a 17” laptop with 16 GB RAM. Either has a Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 1 processor if it matters

I am buying a laptop for school and need something that can pull double duty. I am not making electronic music with a million tracks and plugins but I would like to be able get 16 inputs recording at a time if it’s necessary (I have capability for 8 right now), then editing all that stuff.

Either one would work fine probably. I'd go 16" with 32gb cause I don't like dragging round huge laptops. for basic tracking my 13" Mac Air with 8gb has been fine and if I feel like I really need more screen to look at I have this thing:

15" second monitor that can be powered from the USBC/ Tbolt connection. Fits in my lappy bag and is very light. Dual Screen BABY!!!

Remember, smaller screen size usually means longer batt life!

Thanks! I’ll just go with the 16”.

So I went to get a laptop, found one I wanted with 32 gb ram. The guy says they have an open box sale, would I like the same computer for $500 less? Yes I would! Then I get home and realize the open box wasn’t the same spec I had initially chosen… did some hunting found a 16” lap top for the same discounted price with double the memory and ram. Hence my q. Just got that one and I’ll return the one I came home with.

My credit report is probably shitting itself right now, but now I have faster puters on the way for the same money. 1” smaller but who’s counting

Good eye with that monitor, I’ll add it for later when funds recover and I have time to set something up.

What do you all use to put your music on different streaming platforms?

Distrokid seems like the one most people use. Someone recommended Soundrop to me as well as its not subscription based. There seem to be a bunch of options with pros and cons of each. I always seemed to get lost when I have a zillion options.

I didn't really care for Distrokid. Part of it was my own fault for going with the cheaper annual package, which adds up if you renew it for a year or two (I decided not to). I didn't like the DK 'branding' of YT and Spotify tracks, which looked cheap the same way CD Baby stuff did.

The albums I uploaded to Catapult Distro almost 10 years ago cost more up front, but I never had to think about it again and it's pretty much an invisible service. I haven't looked up their current costs.

I've always used CD Baby, and I started with them since it was a "pay once" model. It's been fine. I don't have any releases on it that make any money, anywho.

I only use Bandcamp. I'm not fucking with Spotify etc. can't be bothered. My music online is basically an archival storage solution. I think Heather used distrokid for the Bone and Bell stuff but that's all her thing.
