Just bought a used pair of those Lewitt 040 Match tiny SDC mics for a good deal. Pretty great on snare so far. haven't tried anything else, so far I really like them and they are almost half the size of my Oktavas, which is almost half the size of my SM81's. If they can match the Oktavas on toms, they might be my new favorite tom mics. Curious to how they would work draped over the top side of a Kick rim pointed at the beater. So small.

I just bought my second MXR Studio Compressor, well I already had the Bass Compressor which is 100% exactly the compressor, but eh "Studio" version is black. Same sound and controls. All the controls of an 1176 and same ratios. Sounds so rad on mono drum mixes.

Make Noise 0-Coast and 0-Ctrl and a desk from CB2 that I bought on marketplace.

Honestly, the biggest game changer for me was buying a second desk for my office where I could leave my little array of synth/noise boxes out and ready to go. The 0-coast and 0-ctrl really do work well together, and having them sitting there is a welcome change from pulling a guitar out during the day and noodling between mtgs etc.

I can see how easily this will spiral into either "eurorack dungeon" or "buying a buchla easel" (or both?) but for now it's a satisfying and limited system. If a strega comes up for a good price, I'll definitely grab it to complete the trio.

I wandered into Sam Ash a week before close and bought sets of heavy duty angled wall hangers for $5 so I can leave my little array of large synth/noise boxes out and ready to go - it increased pleasure immensely. I've limited myself to 'keyed instruments' because I saw how deep the tinkering could get and for that part, I'm satisfied. I play more with that limitation. That 0-coast looks awesome.

//story no-one asked for: you're in Toronto so that CB2 desk would have likely come from the CB2 on Queen West which used to be a venue called the Kathedral. There was an alleyway behind it perfect for drinking, arguing about records and watching skinheads fight crust-punks, or dabbling in it yourself. You were always at risk of being descended upon by 'the Goofs'. That CB2 was one of the heaviest hammer drops of gentrification on Queen West.

I didn’t just buy this, but forgot about it for about 20 years in a cupboard at my parents house. It’s a Yasuki, made in Japan in I think the mid-late 70s. Fixed up the electrics, restrung it and it works. The pickups are complete dogshit and not even in a fun way, just weak and shrill, so I’ll change them to some I have spare. The pickguard is also wrecked and so warped that it’s almost touching the strings, so that’ll have to go too. Despite all this, it’s fun as fuck to play and the neck is actually very nice. The phaser sounds cool, the boost boosts and the distortion is stupid but good.

in my live room, I have a bunch of real keyboards feeding a rack DI that feed a mixer so you can hear them with a little Mac mini driving VST synths. I have a MOTU Ultralite AVB as the sound card for that thing, The analog inputs of it are filled by microphones and drum machines etc. My main DAW card is a MOTU 16a AVB. I got tired of running a sub snake across the room from the DI at Keyboard land every time I wanted to record Rhodes or Farfisa etc so I bought a Arturia X8 ADAT input that adds 8 analog ins over ADAT to the MOTU box so now anything patched into that rack DI has a dedicated input in Reaper via the AVB network. Works great and makes everything in the world cleaner and easier. Also, I can pipe a Reaper mix into the room PA via AVB and save a 30' stereo line run from the mouse hole as well as a stereo input on the mixer (the Mac Mini already hits the mixer). When I'm tracking alone, I use Parsec on the Mac Mini to control the DAW computer in the other room. Fucking Rules.
