Replacing p/ups in my Gretsch.
The current pickups came with an extra large bracket, which required the drilling of new holes. Those pickups have one spring-loaded adjustment screw on each side. The new pickups have two screws at the top, one at the bottom.
The easiest thing would be to use brackets that fit the new pickups, but they are smaller, and that would expose the new holes in the body of the guitar which I don't want.
My question: which is easier:
a) drilling two new holes in top side of the extra large brackets?
or
b) drilling one central hole in the mounting plate on the top side of the new pick-ups?
I think a) is easier, but I'd rather go with b) as cosmetically, it would mean no visible holes in either guitar or bracket. The bit I don't know how to do in b) is how to add the thread to the new hole, so that the pickup is held in place and the springs have something to push against.
A third option might be swapping out the pickup base plate, but I think they are sufficiently different in construction to make that impossible.
