Hol' up!
Whenever anyone criticizes Peter Criss' skills I'm like have you ever really listened to "Detroit Rock City"? That's a pretty boss shuffle he has happening. It's barely there but it shines just enough to know that you are listening to a curious groove. It's there in "Calling Dr. Love" too. OK, maybe that's the only trick in his bag but it's a neat trick. Serve the song!
Re: Band: KISS
22It's probably Anton Fig on the records:)
Those two songs, along with rock n roll all nite, are their high water mark for sure.
Calling Dr Love isn't any kind of shuffle but it is so ridiculously ham-fisted and stupid I can't help but smile

Re: Band: KISS
23I think "Goin' Blind" and "God of Thunder" are unfuckwithable. Gene brought the sludge.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
Re: Band: KISS
24I think he's really trying on the verses to "I Stole Your Love."Those two songs, along with rock n roll all nite, are their high water mark for sure.
I hear a slight drag right after the completion of the intro but you're right. Could be a happy accident. I'm skilled at those!Calling Dr Love isn't any kind of shuffle but it is so ridiculously ham-fisted and stupid I can't help but smile
Justice for Dexter Wade and Nakari Campbell

To give the album the spirit and echo of a live show, producer Eddie Kramer recorded Criss’ drums in a bathroom, with the artist connected to his band mates via a video conference link. The rest of the group tracked from the stage of the Star Theatre in Nanuet, New York.
Re: Band: KISS
26That's Eddie Kramer? The toms sound like pizza boxes.
That's KISS all over isn't? What an absolute shitter of a song, but it's so bad it's almost, almost charming. Even a little bit punk rock, in the sense that kids could hear this and know that rock n roll is accessible to everybody, even those without any discernible songwriting talent.

Re: Band: KISS
27The studio version sounds borderline inept, both the playing and the production. My childhood memory was that the version on Alive 2 was way better. So I'm not sure
1. how much anyone wants to deep dive this song, and
2. how "live" this actually is
but, tell me this isn't miles better in every way. It sounds like a competent rock band actually kind of rocking:
bonus points for the phaser on the drum fill in the middle.

Re: Band: KISS
28The greatest shitty band of all time.
I have had my mind permanently destroyed by listening to the Paul Stanley stage banter tapes multiple times. This band has given me so much joy, intentionally or not, that I cannot possibly vote Crap.

Re: Band: KISS
29Not crap. One of the first bands I got into as a kid alongside AC/DC and Mötley Crue. I enjoy everything up to-and including-Lick it up1 but the records up to Love Gun are obviously where it's at. Lots of filler but WAY too many cool songs for me to ever vote "crap". Deuce alone is an all time fave 70s heavy rocker, especially the version on Alive. Also Parasite, Goin blind, Come on and love me, Black Diamond, Detroit rock city, She etc.
That Gene is a moron and that they may (understatement) been more about cynical commerce than art and that they were a pretty hacky band (a bit like Slade who I guess are cooler nowadays) and (insett 100 other issues) is a different thing, I just dig the tunes and think all original members (yes, even Ace whose 78 solo album is awesome) had really cool voices. Also, Paul in particular had a way with melody when he was inspired

30This is a lovely take. Not sure they deserve such charity, but what charm they have is encapsulated by this. Slade were a great band with two talented songwriters. The similarities are superficial, and I would thank you take Slade's name out of your mouth.jakethesnake wrote: ...a pretty hacky band (a bit like Slade...
