Still a ways to go to get there. I finally got windows XP running on an olde laptop on Friday and updated the drivers, but I'll have to wait 3 weeks before I can do anything else 'cause my homie Sebastian at stagetec in Germany is on holiday. Good on him, wish I was too.seby wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 8:36 amShould sound awesome I hope! That said, there are MADI modules available as well as AES67 and Dante and such, but these don't have them (I'd like to get some though). My guess is the analog rack was in one location, and the AES/EBU rack was in like a control room or something. The software runs on a PC, connects via usb or serial and controls all the routing and DSP and whatnot. Stagetec also makes digital consoles that interface directly with these, there's one listed on sound broker for like $30K....Kniferide wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 12:43 am
Jebis. How and what interface are they, Madi? Something proprietary? What are the specs and can they even be used with a modern system of any kind? I'm so intrigued.
As for does it work on a modern system...not yet. I'm currently in the process of trying to install WIndowsXP on something so I can update drivers and firmware to work with modern OS and current software version. These units were delivered in 2005, but they're still making them, and there's a compact version that looks like it's the size of a mac mini with 8 ins and 8 outs via DB25s, and it's already got the Dante and AES67 compatibility built in. https://www.stagetec.com/en/nexus-audio-matrix
Apparently the AD conversion on these is pretty good, it converts via 4 chips at once and then recombines or something to minimize errors. My whole goal is to put together an out of the box workflow/hybrid recording setup. I've got a DDA DMR12 32 channel console and an Otari MX80 and a bunch of outboard shit I wanna play with. We'll see where it goes.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
1363Two pedals on the way.
TC Electronic Shaker Vibrato—right now, I’m not super-happy with my “modulation” section on my board, currently consisting of an MXR Tremolo and a Keeley Mag Echo set as a modulated slapback. The Tremolo pedal’s neat but I only really find myself using it on the intro section to one song, and since I use a TCE Mimiq to split to two amps, using the Mag Echo the way I do is kind of a hat-on-a-hat situation. I’m going for a tape warble-style sound on the Shaker. I’ve owned it before and liked it so we’ll see if it does what I want it to.
Earthquaker Devices White Light—I bought a copy of the White Light from a small builder on Reverb a couple years ago and found it to really excel in my low-gain OD slot. It seems to stack really nice with any OD I put after it—at least for my applications I found it to add saturation and brightness. Right now I’m using a BD-2 into an OD-3, and while the BD-2 is just fine for jangly low gain OD, I don’t feel like it does anything special when it pushes the OD-3. Found a listing on Reverb for relatively cheap and pulled the trigger on it.

1364That White Light pedal rules. Great for cleaning up low end and adding light grit and compression while still providing its own color. I never need the gain up very high at all, so I’d recommend to anyone looking for an ‘always on’ pedal.
I kind of hated it for a long time but that was my bad for trying to play guitar through a stock Ampeg V4B. To be fair, that amp made me think I hated Celestions, too.

1365White Light is a great always on bass pedal. Definitely cleans up the boomy low end in my weird basement corner. Nice clank. Gain at 0!

1367Chase Bliss Automatone Preamp MKII. I know the cost is ridiculous.
Been hemming and hawing about a FET preamp pedal for a while and I just heard several CB pedals were discontinued (due to EU vactrol ban?) so I scooped up one of the remaining overstocks. They are also offering a lifetime warranty so yeah. Cool flying faders bro!

1369I'm honestly more stoked about the new vacuum I bought that's being delivered today than any piece of music gear I've bought in the last couple of years.
