Re: Finding a job sucks thread
172Wow! Catching up on this thread. Congratulations to everyone. To those who got new jobs months ago, I hope your new digs are working out well.
Re: Finding a job sucks thread
173My new gig is pretty much everything you DON'T want in a job.
High stress
Long hours
Lower pay than previous gig
Fewer benefits
More responsibility
Unpredictable leadership w/ unreasonable demands
Work from the office after being exclusively remote for 6 years
Occasionally physically dangerous (not kidding)
And of course, under capitalism I'm supposed to be grateful to have it. First check lined up precisely when my severance ran out. My own imposter syndrome and lack of experience in a ton of areas folks in my field are expected to have doesn't help.
I had a lot of gaps due to the narrow lane I was in at my previous employer. Hoping to stick it out for a year or so, beef up my resume w/ certs and on-the-job learning about those areas w/ experience and gtfo. Need to bolster the savings as #1 priority in case I just walk out.

175Got an offer on Thursday and accepted it on Friday. Locally based company that has offices/work nationwide, HQ is a 10-15 minute drive from my house (or 25 minute bike ride!), good benefits, more base pay than I was making before. Glad to not be at a fucking tech company after going through so many interview rounds with various levels of evil places and getting STAR questioned to death. I don't start till the end of the month but it means we can finally get off my wife's COBRA insurance, and perfect timing as I have one more week of unemployment I can apply for before that runs out.
Feels good to delete the fucking LinkedIn app off my phone!

177Congrats tallchris!
Sorry about your new job Garth. I sorta fear a situation like that for myself, which is partly why I'm favoring contract work over FT stuff right now unless I know someone there who can assure me it doesn't suck.

178Spend too long contracting and when you try to join a company every recruiter will block you and say "too many short-term roles on your CV, they want someone who's guaranteed to stay long-term".penningtron wrote: Sun Oct 06, 2024 3:05 pm Congrats tallchris!

Re: Finding a job sucks thread
180It's been 4 months without work and I'm struggling with the heaps and heaps of rejections.
I got jerked around by a company a couple times: First interview cancelled an hour before with no reason for 2 days. The role was filled.
Second interview, same place, different position. Stayed on the zoom call for 15 humiliating minutes, nothing.
Was called the next day with a request to reschedule. Did the interview but couldn't resist asking what the patient experience with their reliability as my perception was that it needed a lot of work. The interviewer blamed a third party.
I of course should have just sucked it up and played nice. Couldn't resist calling bullshit.
I hope if I have to be taken to the hospital, it isn't to the Providence entity. Christian indeed
