Is this the kind of thing we should keep in mind the next time there's a PRF charity build?
Man, if that’s what I think it is, I’m on board. I love (non-clean) boosts and drive at near zero for pedals with circuits that tolerate that. I kind of use pedals more like a studio eq and to goose the amp just a bit. That works for both cleanish and AC/DC grit sort of sounds.

My old buddy used to swear by a Rat with the gain down at like nothing and the volume up.

EDIT: Now I keep thinking "Gain Down, Volume Up....That's The Way We Like to Fuck"

I got a T.C. Electronic Zeus awhile back, just a really great Klon-style OD pedal. It sounds amazing and it has a setting to add some low end. The only problem is, the footswitch turns ON only when it's depressed, making it really fucking hard to time everything and remember that this ONE pedal does that. I don't really understand why the hell anyone making pedals would make the depress turn ON (it still turns off on the press). To me, now it's just a useful always on, so I might move it to the bass rig.

Anyway, looking for cheap-ass Klon is easy these days. I came across Caline pedals, which are all on the low-end of the price scale. They make two Klon-style pedals, the Pegasus and the Medusa. The Medusa has a lot more overdrive, but the Pegasus is supposed to be strait up no-BS transparent OD. They sell for $37 new on Amazon and with some points I got it for $20. It's gotten some great reviews and people seem to just love Caline. Anyway, it's supposed to be delivered today, looking forward to it. There's barely anything to lose that this price range.

Elaborate on this because it sounds perfectly normal to me. You press the switch and it turns on. ?

I have one of those TC guys, and it will stay silent until you lift your foot off the switch.

Has certainly Seen Some Shit but has been serviced recently; needs a couple of little things yet (one speaker that is anything other than the current Marsland, something that isn't duct tape holding the badges on, a bath), but rips. Seller, an excellent, eccentric old man, threw in a TS25b for free ("oh, I love those amps." "Sucks. Take it.").
