Re: Those 2024 albums worth a damn.
122Nice. This is great. Thanks for the tip.

123My buds in Medicine Bows just put out a great new album called DONNA. To my ears they're the closest thing Seattle's had to a Minutes, definitely scratches some of that Hot Snakes/Reis itch too.

124Local rock band, The Feat, just released the single from their upcoming debut record, Schemes For Decades, and it is really good. You might remember their killer set at Comfort Station during PRFBBQ '23 where they were also really good.

127Thanks for these, still working through them here. I really dig that Sour Widows record, have to pick it up.brephophagist wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 10:54 pm Sour Widows - Revival of a Friend - imagine Pile but more dense 2-guitar interplay, two lady singers harmonizing, and more willing to sit in a space for a minute
Thou - Umbilical - exceptional, even for them
Necrot - Lifeless Birth - nothing earth-shattering, just solid-ass death metal with the best lowbrow metal album cover I've seen in a long time
Jessica Pratt - Here in the Pitch - super minimal, lovely pop record with a very distinctive voice (literally and figuratively)
The Body & Dis Fig - Orchards of a Futile Heaven - I like their collabs with femme vocalists - majestic
and if I can sneak in a December 2023 record: Elephant Walk - Dreadnought Demo
Re: Those 2024 albums worth a damn.
128It took Jessica Pratt doing a top ten for Criterion to get me to check out that record, and I'm glad I did. Late to the party, but glad to join it. The tonal register isn't exactly the same, but I kinda get "Dorothy Moskowitz singing 'Love Song for the Dead Che'" vibes on some of that record. It arrived today and I'll throw it on the turntable soon.

129Mystic Valley PKWY by Daughter Of The Vine
This came out in January, but I didn't know about it until last week and it's maybe my favorite thing I've heard all year. Nothing groundbreaking, just snappy psych-pop tunes done right. With this, somesurprises, and Winged Wheel, it's been a good year for dreamy reverb lady vocals. Paging rsmurphy.
