Playing around with it a bit more, I noticed you get a big lift in volume if you turn the distortion up. If you only want a little distortion, you get the volume suck. However, if you start to really play with the guitar's volume knob, it becomes more malleable. I don't know if it's because of the compression of the signal getting distorted (I'm sure there's an analysis on this somewhere). I've been trying to lean into the guitar volume knob more for handling OD/Distortion.

With those things in mind, I wanted to wonder why after 50 years, Boss hasn't fixed this issue. If it's been around this long, perhaps it's a "me" not "them" issue and I just need to learn how to use my guitar more effectively.

Bastl Kastle Arp. I already have the Kastle Drum and original 1.5 Kastle Synth, which I got with the idea of getting into making more bleep-bloopy electronic stuff. They’re generally on a more lo-fi thing. The original Bastl Kastle can make some cool sounds but it’s not really note-quantized at all. The Arp seems to be much more so in terms of producing actual melodies. If I get around to putting everything together I’ll try to shoot some video of me playing around with it! (Also got a small breadboard for potentially expanding the inputs and outputs as the Bastl Kastle stuff all uses breadboard-style pin cables.)

Also, I have finally finished the Hippie Sandwich to the best of my abilities and have dropped it off at the shop last night to get a nut cut for it, do an initial setup and possibly fix my fucked-up soldering. Looking forward to it coming back to me!

I remember plugging my bass into one around that time and thinking, oh, that’s what they were doing on those records. I think the ODB3 was infinitely more popular for bassists, but the DS1 totally did a thing.
That was my first pedal, purchased in 1992, and I used it exclusively on bass. It sounded awesome, I felt like I had discovered an incredible secret, and my mind had not yet been polluted with any of the standard accepted gear beliefs perpetuated by the guitar and bass wanker magazines, so I was able to experience my joy without being told I was wrong for using it that way.

The synth player in Black Mesa has been running through an HM2 recently and it sounds pretty good!

I bought 3 tiny Shure SM62's for a hundo on Ebay. Never seen them before, have no idea why they exist. The sound Ok. Kinda like a 58 but without as much boxy proximity and without that horrible 5k bump. Much lower output. Might try them on a snare or something. They are comically small in the hand. Look at this graph:

anyone ever see these and can you tell me why?
