Going? Twas ever thus.
There’s a weird hangover regarding Russia on the left and right that still seems to think Russia is communist.

The only thing they ever achieved was helping to elect George W Bush and Trump. Why would any anti-war, pro universal healthcare person vote for a party that has done nothing but assist the far right?

Yeah, there's that perplexing but rather sizable part of the (American, at least) right that hates any whiff of socialism (much less communism) but thinks Putin is running the greatest law-and-order, show-'em-who's-boss, no-gays-allowed, might-makes-right strongman state in the world right now.

Meanwhile, more than a few on the far left here get naively nostalgic about Trotsky and/or were overzealous Russian lit majors. And dig Putin's foreign policy b/c it's at odds w/America's. Enemy of my enemy is my friend.

10 years today since the independence referendum was held in Scotland. In that 10 years we’ve had essentially permanent Tory rule (and truly some of the worst PMs in history) and are no longer in the EU. Pretty much everything the No campaign said would happen in the event of a Yes vote has happened anyway and we’ve had no say in the decisions. Fuckin great.

Yep. I’ve seen this first hand. A self proclaimed socialist working for Iranian state media, thinking Putin (a kleptocratic capitalist) was a friend of the left and basically backing every tinpot authoritarian.

She’s Canadian Nicaraguan
Well a Nicaraguan might have some first hand experience with how this all works....but nevermind. Let's just say as you've mentioned already NATO and the US don't exactly have a sterling reputation concerning "protecting their own interests" but cutting and running as soon as it becomes a liability. You can be assured Ukraine will be next. But point taken that being the enemy of your enemy does not make someone a suitable ally.

I liked this in particular
Normally the Greens aren’t important but they were in 2016, they cost Hillary Clinton a couple of blue wall states, and they were in 2000,” Sabato said. “Why vote for them when Democrats are also concerned about climate change? All you’re doing is helping Republicans. Without them we might not have had the Iraq invasion, we might not have had Donald Trump.”
Is important to note that without Bush/Cheney, the post 9/11 world would look radically fucking different.

I'm astounded this is the only post in this thread to mention this.

It should be noted that although Israel and it's cheerleaders are claiming the pagers all belonged to Hezbollah operatives, there are no independent sources that can confirm this. In fact, there are mounting accounts that many innocent civilians and healthcare operatives are the ones to have been injured. These things went off in moving cars (which obviously renders the vehicle out of control, if only temporary) markets, etc.

There's also a report that said the Ukrainian ambassador was injured by one of these pagers. Was he working with Hezbollah? I find that unlikely.

There is also information appearing that claims the US university hospital of Beirut changed all of their staff pagers 10 days ago. None of their staff have been harmed in these attacks.

This has to be the biggest self-own since brexit. The UN just voted overwhelmingly to strip Israel of it's right to self defence in regards to Palestine. Motorola shares are tanking. Airlines are suspending flights to Israel - the economy there was already in trouble, this will just sink it deeper. This is driving people towards the BDS movement.

On top of all that, what I see frequently from defenders of Israel is a pride in accomplishments, especially in regards to technology. What you have to ask now is, who would trust them or their technology after this? If technology is your greatest export, using it to commit mass indescriminate murder has to be a huge 'shooting yourself in the foot' moment.

This isn't just another step in whatever-you-want-to-call-it. Something shifted here, on quite a large scale.

You think if Biden/Harris/trump/whoever called netanyahu and said "sort this out or you're getting cut off!" he wouldn't do it? It's happened before.

Aw, don't be coy. You know exactly what they mean. Since the US engineered the destruction of Nord Stream 2 (with the help of one or two vassal states) Germany has been paying double to import US gas.

They did, we already established this.

Glad you're finally getting it.
